There Are No Successful Black Nations
Foreign Policy ^ | August 8 2016 | Chigozie Obioma

Posted on 08/12/2016 9:02:25 AM PDT by jumpingcholla34

Early African-American intellectuals and cultural elites saw that the future of their race could not be advanced by endless protests or marches of “equality” or “justice.” It could only be done through the restoration of the trampled dignity of the black man. Great men like Marcus Garvey, W. E. B. Du Bois, and Malcolm X all knew that a people is only respected when it has a nation worthy of respect. A man who lives in a shack cannot expect to be treated with respect at a palace. They knew that for us to reclaim power we must first reclaim dignity and that this comes through the construction of a solid black state with a demonstrable level of development and prosperity–and which can stand as a powerful advocate for the global black.

Today, no such state exists.

Nigeria, the most populous black nation on Earth, is on the brink of collapse. The machineries that make a nation exist, let alone succeed, have all eroded. One might argue that the nation’s creation by self-seeking white imperialists engendered its failure from the beginning, as I did in my recent novel. But this is only a part of the cause. A culture of incompetence, endemic corruption, dignified ineptitude, and, chief among all, destructive selfishness and greed has played a major role in its unravelling. The same, sadly, can be said for most other African nations. States like Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea are farcical democracies ruled by men who exclusively cater to their interests and those of their clipped circles.

Thus, it is no surprise that in the absence of any healthy black nation–in the midst of chaos, senseless wars, corrupted religiosity, violence, and economic collapse–African and Caribbean people leave home en masse.

Before we sneer, we should note that bad governance isn't unique to Africa - we may be ahead of African nations, but we're squandering our own present and future due to corruption and mis-rule too.

You might say that we installed African governance here in the USA with the election of Barack O- whatshisname.

The cities of Timbuktu, Djenne, and Gao have preserved historical sites that date back into the 12th century. They were major trade cities and Timbuktu was noted as a city of scholars (Sankore was one of the major centers of learning), at one point having almost a quarter of it’s population as students of some kind. Hundreds of thousands of pages of scholarly works still exist.

During European colonialism, much of the history of these locations and former empires was either suppressed to keep the colonies under the heel of the French and Belgians who controlled the area or were dismissed as fanciful tales by European based scholars.

But archeology and historical examination show that the Ghana/Mali/Songhai empire thread held a large part of western Africa from around the 4th century until the late 16th century and the major cities of Timbuktu and Gao were important centers of trade and power from the 10th century into the 16th century.

Have not studied the other two cities, but Timbuktu had a cosmopolitan population in which the leadership was either Arab or Berber, at the time of the study that I read. It is a serious logical error to simply lump all the peoples in a vast geographical region together.

This is true not only in Africa, but everywhere. All Europeans are not similar in talent; nor are all Asians, etc.. Moreover, all aptitudes are not measured by IQ. The fact is that all races and sub-races are different, and should be respected for whom they are, not whom the internationalists & other international meddlers, seeking to remake other people's heritage, want to pretend they are.

People are not interchangeable. Those who want to pretend that they are have agendas that are not compatible with anyone's liberty or well being.

From the article:

He has also noted that the IQs of the children's mothers and fathers are unknown, and that white and black G.I.'s in Germany were not equally representative of their respective populations, since about 30 percent of blacks, compared to about 3 percent of whites, failed the preinduction mental test and were not admitted into the armed forces. He further argues that the selective preferences of the German women with regard to sexual partners may have influenced the results in an unknown manner.

Africa has 2/3 of the world’s languages. The lack of a common language fosters tribalism. I had a very conservative linguistics professor in school who posited the suppression of a lingua franca was one of the major reasons for Africa’s lack of progress.

It’s no surprise the Democrats work so hard to devolve American into tribal cultures. It’s a very successful way to invite social disorder, and its resultant authoritarian governments.

Yeah, you could play all of this out for quite some distances trying to separate out culture, genetics, environment. It’s probably the case that even if you somehow equalized everything except pure biology (of course impossible to do), you’d end up with some differences. Certainly that’s the case for other less controversial topics such as height, athletic ability, etc. Having grown up in a mixed-race family and now having supervised dozens of employees of every race for the past decade or so, I suspect that differential would pale in comparison to the cultural and environmental factors that are currently driving things for the most part.

I know one thing for sure. Given the choice between living in a black or white run nation there is no choice.

Timbuktu was conquered by the Berbers out of Morocco in the 16th Century. Before that it was ruled by Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically the Ghana/Mali/Songhia empires that ruled the Western stretch of the area known as the Sahel. (The Sahel is the stretch of mostly savannah land that divides the Sahara desert from the wooded lands further south.)

All long term successful modern nations were build on the foundation of Christian ethics, values, morality...

ancient civilization had similar codes of conduct to stabilize their society...

The color of your skin has nothing to do with it...

Botswana is the easy one. When was the last time you read about it in the news?

Pretty much never. Peaceful, democratic nations with growing economies rarely make headlines.

Looks like those rock churches were carved because of the influence of Christianity, not from the mythological African empire. And the literature was mostly translated and copied from other languages.

So what influences did this have on the rest of the world? What did they contribute to humanity or science?

Currently there is only one dominant world power.

So the rest of the world is not successful I guess.

So no research? Hm...........
Chigozie Obioma, born in Nigeria, has been awarded numerous international accolades and prizes in English Literature and is a ranking Professor at the University of Nebraska.
What is absurd and embarrassing is for someone to assert that he is wrong simply because you say so, sort of like how the Cheshire Cat retorted to Alice. So kindly:
* define the parameters of a successful nation?
* list the successful Black nations?
* list the successful South American nations?
Can’t wait.
