I just did a trip to Italy late June/early July - Venice, Florence, Rome. Venice seemed untouched by the muslim invasion, with the exception of one muslim woman beggar. Florence also seemed pretty status quo.

Rome was... Different. Muslim (mostly North African, I'd guess), were prevalent, mostly hawking selfie sticks and other junk. Security in Rome was very visible, with vehicles and soldiers with serious weapons in front of every significant tourist site. Had to go through security and metal detectors everywhere, even at lesser known basilicas.

Rome was in many ways very much like NYC, but with more urine stink (which was really, really awful in 90+ degree heat).

Glad I got to see it, but I don't expect to return to Europe for a very long time, if ever, which is sad (I REALLY wanted to go back to Oktoberfest!).

That's good to know.

I spent a semester in France in the mid-80's and even then they had a lot of North African young men walking around in groups, hassling women.

one muslim woman beggar

Traditionally a Muslim woman rejected by her husband has to beg or die.

As is usual for us Americans, we travel far and wide rather than check out the good stuff here at home. Enjoy the Fest!
