There are many state laws, mostly dealing with sex crimes and assault crimes, with more sever penalties if the victim is under a certain age or over a certain age. Usually it’s under 13 and over 65. The law places special protections on the most vulnerable: children and the elderly. There are usually protections for mentally ill victims as well.

They call it Elderly Abuse in the State of Florida. It is a felony of the First Degree with a penalty of 20 years. The victim has to be 65 years of age or older. t is a tacked on charge, after the initial offense has occurred. What they call it in other States, I have no idea.
