No, fellow Freepers, I have to stand by what I wrote. I don’t like it, and I don’t plan to take part, but have to paint what I see.

All of the evidence I have seen tells me that it is a war of destruction, and that it is not our side that is pushing for it. And it is already well underway ...

I agree that the 17th Amendment is one of many changes that was probably ill-advised, but there have been many, many others, including the Militia Acts of the 1790s.

I hope and pray that the adjustment comes at the ballot box and not the hard way. I am voting Trump for peace, not war.

There won't be riots... that's leftist projection.

Frank Bruni's being paranoid. Must be a lot of guilt in the New York Times about their endless trashing of everyday traditional Americans... it's leading them to twisted thinking and fears of revenge. MSM elites ought to get out of their offices and meet people who are 'not like them'... it might quell the prejudice and hatred in their hearts and allow people like Bruni to open his eyes to the truth: THEY are the violent ones - not us.

Let's keep this real... Hillary's people riot, they burn cars, they attack us, shoot us, destroy our signs, attack us outside of rallies. WE NEVER DO THAT TO THEM AND BRUNI KNOWS IT... or should know it if his mind wasn't clouded by hatred of 'the other'...

Leftists are the violent ones...

What WILL happen if Trump loses is millions of us will walk away from the Republican Party.

Some like me will leave quickly - others more slowly.

I'll never vote for a person who runs under the Republican Party label again. I'll never buy into the lie that our 'elites' are better than their 'elites' - they're NOT. Both groups lie to their base to get elected - and when elected they make laws to consolidate THEIR POWER while feathering their own nests.

Million of us will work AGAINST THE UNIPARTY ELITES. PERIOD.

At least democrats defend their base if it doesn't cost them any money.. If the IRS had gone after liberal groups (like they went after us) the DNC would have fought tooth and nail and enlisted the help of the MSM New York Times gimp platoon to do battle. OUR guys did NOTHING. They didn't give a damn about what was happening to 'the base' because they're too busy counting cash from THEIR DONORS.

The battle will be against BOTH ESTABLISHMENT PARTIES - THE VERY CORRUPT LEFT AND THE WANNABEE CORRUPT RIGHT.

I’m much more concerned about what she would do in this regard if she wins!

Poor Frank Bruni of the NYT seems to worry there could be riots if Trump loses.

Republicans don't riot, maybe Trump's Democratic voters. Assuredly, Hitlery's voters will riot when they realize their will be no more free stuff. This election will be who will give more freebies. The Bolshies will soon have an ad with Trump pushing granny over the cliff.

“There have been organized attempts to disrupt his events inside the various venues. There are numerous news stories about Trump signs being stolen or vandalized, even the homes of Trump supporters have been vandalized. I’ve seen a couple of stories about guys wearing Trump’s Make America Great Again caps being assaulted.”

You haven’t read stories about the push-back against the leftist thugs because the propaganda press embargoes those stories from national distribution.

In my town, for example, a BLM racist was arrested at a protest last month for attempted murder and faces 10-20 years in state prison.

To Mr. Bruni:

You should fear it, you puke!

Frank Bruni is execrable. Of a piece with Richard Cohen, Thomas Frank, the movie reviewer who’s now a column writer (name escapes me at the moment), and even David Brooks.

Spit!

It would not be quick. If such a war took place we’d likely be fighting in places like Los Angeles, Baltimore, Manhattan and Chicago. And in some cases, we’d be fighting our own military. Many would likely change sides away from the federal government. Pockets of people with power to order and carry out drone strikes, air bombing raids in major cities across the country etc...it’d be a serious, bloody mess.

Why would we need to be fighting there? Blow the Bridges, Water ducts, and power lines, and wait. The city's would be ungovernable in a month. It wouldn't be worth governing in a year.

I have no illusions about what it would turn into. My initial commentary was operating under the suggestion that it would just be us against them with the Military more or less sidelined. Let me be clear. In a contest strictly between Liberals and Conservatives, we will dance on their graves. If the Liberals get the military to protect them, then that is a different matter.

I think they will still die, but it will take a lot longer, and in the meantime, most of the Liberals will become conservatives. There is nothing like real word misery to make people grow up and wake up.

I don’t see any similarity other than the impulse.

Well let's look at it then. Since the beginning of the year, i've learned things about the Civil war that I simply didn't know about before.

In 1860, 3/4ths of all the value of US exports to Europe came from the South. Only 1/4th came from the North. To clarify this point, the 5 million US Citizens in the South created 75% of all outgoing trade value. The 20 Million US Citizens of the North only created 25% of the outgoing trade value. (Yes, that surprised me too.)

Incoming trade is directly proportional to outgoing trade, because Europeans must send in money and products to pay for the material they buy from the US. This means that ~75% of all US Imports arrived to pay for Southern products.

Since the US Government ran entirely on tariff's at that time, it is reasonable to point out that the 5 million US Citizens in the South were paying for 75% of the US Government, while the 20 million US Citizens in the North were only paying for 25% of it. (It was actually more lopsided than that, but it's easier to calculate it with this simple method.) In Truth, it was the Slave labor of the South which was mostly paying for the US Government, and the economic trade activity in the North.

The North loved the economic activity produced by slaves which made New York and Boston wealthy, (They were getting 40% of the value of all export products from the South) but they were constantly haranguing the South for their differences in morals. So far as the Southern citizenry was concerned, this situation is very analogous with your comment:

It seems the citizenry could live with the wealth transfers, but not the cultural throat forcing.

The South was paying for most of the government, and was creating vast amounts of economic activity in the North, and they could apparently live with paying more than their fair share, but they had over time become increasingly incensed at all the efforts to attack their morality.

Which brings us to this comment of yours:

The USA is ripe for break up. Courts and Urban dwellers are in open revolt against the heartland where all their revenue comes from.

The exact same dynamic existed in 1861. The more populous Urban North and the less populous and more agricultural South were in open revolt against each other. Most of the government's revenues were coming from the South.
