My Dad was the same way. I “manipulated” him to get him to do something I wanted him to do. He found out, sat me down, looked me in the eyes and said, “Once trust is gone you can never get it back.” I cried so hard. I was twelve years old. : (
I don’t remember the words my Dad used, might have been something very similar, but his red face and throbbing veins is something I’ll never forget. I’m sure he never would have gone through with it but I got the feeling that short circuiting him might be the ‘you’re no longer my son’ line if I crossed it. I didn’t test it.
