In what has emerged as the latest scandal involving Donald Trump, the presidential candidate on Friday retracted a statement that he had seen a video on TV of a plane carrying $400 million in cash to Iran, money which as the WSJ reported earlier this week was allegedly made as a ransom payment to free 4 US hostages held by Iran. The statement was a rare reversal of comments he made on the campaign trail earlier this week.
“The plane I saw on television was the hostage plane in Geneva, Switzerland, not the plane carrying $400 million in cash going to Iran!” Trump tweeted.

However, as the Washington Examiner notes, after those comments, the Trump campaign told The Washington Post that the tape Mr. Trump had seen was b-roll footage that’s been labeled as American hostages landing in Geneva in January after being released from prison. But Mr. Trump said again Thursday in Maine that he guessed the footage was of the money transfer.

So Trump did what he has rarely done before: he backed down.

And then, just as Trump was retracting his claims, something curious happened.
Overnight, the BBC reported that a video did indeed exist, referring to a documentary called "The Rules of the Game" which was broadcast on Iranian state TV in February. In the clip, one can see shots of an airport are accompanied by commentary which references 17 January in Tehran's Mehrabad Airport.
Specifically, the video shows a loaded crate, partially blurred out, which allegedly shows the money in question.

Did he tweet it? I don't know why he does his own tweets. He needs to have a staff who vets the potential tweets before they go live. I get that the apparent presence of a video does vindicate Trump; but he still made a false claim he need not have made.

Now that the real video is out, trump can re- release his statement and say that now he HAS seen the hostage payment delivery
My guess is that Obama’s people gave Trump a security briefing, told him all about the ransom deal, then told him that it’s classified information and he would be arrested if he ever spoke about it again.
If I were cool, calculating and a successful winner, and I were taking on a new project - one in which any success would threaten a lot of the establishment gumming up the works and they wanted to destroy me- In a learning phase I’d throw into the mix some trial gaffes just to see who would react, take the bait, and their style of attack, their support and weaknesses what they value, their fears.
While I was doing that all the people around me would be telling me what to do what not to do. Screaming, even. I’d time them out with my eye on learning during that phase
Like throwing out bait to see who comes out and how they grab it I guess like a pitcher studies the batting style of the team he’ll be facing the next day.
He obviously follows tconspiracy and alternative sites or people feed him stuff, and this video was misidentified
Trump needs to stop shooting from the lip and accepting chit at face value
He has enough money and staff to,investigate this stuff before commenting
I also thought the video was of the plane carrying the ransome monies I think MANY of us were lead to believe this so WHY is this such a scandal??? The real video and one of the prisoners has NOW come forward confirming this DID actually happen so WHERE IS THE SCANDAL????
Seems like an honest mistake. This administration and the press puts so many lies and misinformation out there it’s easy to confuse the facts.
Exactky. Trump needs to get his experts and legal advisors together, gets the facts and call a press conference forcing the POS to go on defense.
Obviously this story is not a negative for Trump at all.

That was the hostage plane in Geneva, not the money plane in Iran.
Unlike the Left - when he makes a mistake, he owns up to it - his premise was still right and more proof of it coming in every day of how Obama not only paid ransom to the terrorists but pre-laundered the money for their convenience (his convenience too as it makes it harder to tell how many innocents lose their lives because of it...

Obama gave an explanation for the money transfer. I’m not saying it’s the true story, but it’s an explanation.
