In the article I read decades ago, it mentioned her aversion to washing her hair. Referring to a specific “political networking” picnic she was attending with Bill, (and this was in the 1970’s as I recall), they were there to meet certain well-connected politicians and wheeler-dealers. The author mentioned that it was embarrassing because she showed up dirty and with a strong body odor, and the oily stringy hair that you mentioned....oh, and also wearing an old baggy smelly mou-mou (spelling?) type of dress. Who knew at the time I read the article that I would need to refer to it decades later. I wished I had saved it, but at the time, I had no idea of what we lay ahead.
I remember back in the days all of us having a great laugh when she tried putting on her own makeup. Looked like a twelve year old at a Mary Kay party !
