Hurricanes, large and small, have eluded U.S. shores for record lengths of time. As population and wealth along parts of the U.S. coast have exploded since the last stormy period, experts dread the potential damage and harm once the drought ends.

Global warming is sea wrap!
Here I am, in the dog days of August, bundled up in a fleece bathrobe.
First time ever in my life I have done this in August!
Weather forecasters have been doing their best to turn Earl into a major hurricane to the point that it was getting ridiculous, particularly since it wasn’t going to come anywhere near the Gulf Coast or Texas.
Tonight two of the local stations went on and one about how the water temp off Galveston is 89 degrees and we shouldn’t be surprised if a hurricane occurs. Good grief.
We had major damage during Ike so I don’t care if we never have another one.
Yeah! Liberals are the ultimate whiners / crybabies.

Two ringy pingy.
When Hurricane Sandy made landfall the windspeed was 80mph, thus making it a minimal hurricane.
So ... am I on the list now? It seems like I get on a lot of lists without even trying, mostly email. I have a firm policy of ignoring everything, but this doesn’t seem to deter anybody. Oh, Brave new world!
But still one hell of a storm, wouldn't you say? Do you leave in the region?

And I remember reading in Technology Review, the MIT magazine, that higher temperatures would cause more severe hurricanes.
... or live. Live or leave, I always say.
Obama has kept the hurricanes away. Probably due to the ocean levels halting their rise.
Have no idea!
I live on the opposite side.

This is one of the biggest lies I’ve ever heard.
1. August 2011 - Hurricane Irene, 7th most expensive and one of the most ferocious. It was going strong into Quebec and Labrador. It did to New Hampshire what (2.) Hurricane Sandy, 2nd most expensive, did to New Jersey.
That’s two of the top seven hurricanes in USA history in five years.
Exactly what you said.
Succinct. True.
Have they assigned blame yet? Whose fault is it?
Is it my fault? Am I the baddie?
I don’t want to adandon my home due to hurricane because frankly and sadly I worry about being looted.

Well, Sandy had a huge surge, which transformed the beachfronts of Long Island and New Jersey. Just a few weeks ago we vacationed in Ocean City NJ, after a hiatus of many years, and it so happened that the beaches had been restored, since Sandy, by “dredging” which is actually massive hydraulic pumping of offshore sand onto the beach.
Back in the 90’s I think, we were at “the shore” when a similar operation was in progress, but I believe it was pretty much undone by a winter storm in the next year or so. This year, the restoration seemed very much more extensive, and I attribute this to the federal monies made available by the declaration of Sandy as a disaster, or whatever.
Anyway, it was a very wide, or “long” beach ( i.e. a long extent towards the ocean. ) We were in a familiar spot, and I don’t recall this long a stretch from there to the water line.
So, life goes on. I have to say that the beach was noticeably more crowded there than I remembered it. Well, there’s a lot more people now. What does the future hold?
