Time for a class action lawsuit.
You'll miss the notice that your deposits have been moved to The Bank of Guatemala.
I’m going to guess that like me, you two started getting benefits while the SSA was still mailing us statements every year noting our benefit amts. Also like me, you probably applied for your benefits in person and have never gotten an email about this whole kerfluffle because you didn’t NEED TO HAVE a mySSaccount to get those benefits.
No account = no email = no notification of requirement to have cell phone.
I imagine sooner or later some bright MBA at the SSA will have this brought to his/her/its attention at which point some even more complicated solution will be devised. Perhaps they will even find a way to get a bar or two of cell service to my rural location to allow me to avail myself of this convenient, cutting edge technology.
Until then I will continue to call my bank every third Wednesday of the month to make sure my direct deposit comes through. If it ever doesn’t, a “Come to Jesus meeting” will be in the offering.
Don’t give up your day job
Look at the bright side. They can declare you incompetent and deny you your 2nd Amendment rights all because you don’t have a “smart” phone.
See how that works?
L
maybe not, but you are
sorry about that #47...it was uncalled for
time for me to hit the rack
I really appreciate that. It was sure puzzling to me. Yes, my husband and I both applied in person; no fuss, no muss 15 years ago.
I wonder if this means we won’t be getting the annual SS Benefit statements (Jan) or the one announcing the benefit amount (Dec) for the coming year mailed to us? Guess I’ll wait and see what happens.
I have a cell phone which stays in my purse and used only to call the power company or phone company when we have lost power. Hardly seems like this was a well thought out plan but then coming from the feds, why are we surprised?
Thank you again.
ICBW, but I think they are required by law (for whatever THAT’S worth)to send the 1099s by mail in January. As you say, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens to our Dec. notice.
I just recently got my SS letter (yes, I’m getting old!!!!). I won’t be able to exercise my SS for at least two years. Do I need to start an account so early?
Thanks for the heads up. That is really very kind of you.
As far as I know, the most important reason to start an account for online access is to do it before some identity thief does it first. If an identity thief creates an access account in your name before you do, it makes things difficult.
