Cruz quiet after convention speech, works to rebuild political brand
The Washington Times ^ | August 3, 2016 | Stephen Dinan

Ted Cruz has gone quiet after his daring convention speech, firing off fundraising pleas for his 2018 Senate campaign but otherwise keeping a low profile as analysts say he does the hard work of rebuilding his political brand.

He’s stuck his neck out, both personally and online, to boost several conservatives in the Cruz mold — only to see them lose their primaries...

Instead of being out and about, Mr. Cruz appears to be worried about his campaign bottom line, firing off a couple of pleas to supporters to pony up contributions ahead of his re-election race — which isn’t for another two years...

Mr. Jillson, the SMU political scientist, said the speech was a miscalculation.

“He thought he was reliving one of Ronald Reagan’s great moments, and that it would establish him as the conservative standard-bearer going forward, but the hall didn’t buy it, nor did the country,” he said.

Perhaps the worst signal came later in the night, when Mr. Cruz tried to visit the suite of mega-GOP donor Sheldon Adelson but was denied entry...

If his guide had been to do what’s right for the country, he never would have miscalculated. Being that he’s never been anything other than an ambitious poser, it’s clear why he did what he did. It was foolish of him, but his intention was clear. His ego wouldn’t allow him to recognize that he had already lost this battle and would have been better served by going back to the phony conservative/patriot routine and pretend to support Trump over the traitor, Hillary. But Cruz’s hubris got the better of him.

Karma plays rough and tumble. Never again, Ted, never again. I was for ya' before I was against ya'. You blew it, with your lies (NBC) and your treatment of the best man we have who is willing to FIGHT for our country. OUR COUNTRY, not yours, not Canada.

Still awaiting your convoluted reply as to how you, yourself, determine YOUR NBC. Tick Tick Tick. We've an overabundance of these parasites in Texas, so please feel free to move back home. Too many are already feeding off of US

Oh, and, Ted, remember

Cruz is ineligible to be President as a matter of Constitutional law.

I agree. Doesn’t matter if he was born in a manger on the 4th of July. A natural-born citizen requires 2 citizen parents. That some activist judges try to rule differently; well, hey, the country is screwed up in a lot of ways.

;)

Ted the undercover Democrat.. I imagine Hillary has all sorts of dirt on the anal wart known as Ted Cruz. What a tool.

I once thought Cruz was tolerable. Now, of course, nothing could be further from the truth. But I have a relative who has always said Cruz was crazy-selfish-dangerous.

I told a guy at the end of April not to trust TC. And Ted has proven me right again and again and again.

Cruz did much more damage to his personal image than his “political brand”.

It’s a lot harder to fix the perception that your are a liar, a phony, and a backstabber.

Thank you. It was a nice guy at the John Hagee rally in Branson. He had been fooled by Ted’s antics.

I already knew about the Corker Bill and maybe the BLM thing had happened too (not sure). But I could tell he was playing both sides for ‘plausible deniability’.

I think his bitter convention speech tattooed “sore loser” across his forehead which is a crying shame because he could have been a hero had he come out in strong support for Trump!

All the bad blood would have been immediately forgotten and unity would have ruled the day, the convention, the campaigns and left the damn MSM and the Billy-goat Kristol’s talking to and amongst themselves.

But NO, either Cruz miscalculated or he was too bitter to rise above petty politics and his YUGE ego, so now he can GTH as far as I and a whole lot of others are concerned or care.

Before I knew more about Donald Trump and his fight for America, I thought Cruz might work. But I didn’t like his style or his rhetoric...just was a tentative “like”. After his convention debacle, I never want to see his face again.

Never held a private sector job, graduated from Harvard, constitutional scholar, lawyer, junior senator, foreign born, hides his real name, hid his nationality during his senate run, repeatedly failed to vote as senator, and immediately began seeking the office of president once elected. He is also the anointed one.

“He thought he was reliving one of Ronald Reagan’s great moments, and that it would establish him as the conservative standard-bearer going forward, but the hall didn’t buy it, nor did the country,”

That's because his speech had NOTHING to do with being the "conservative standard bearer".

He should have listened to Reagan's 1976 RNC speech a few more times (and even his 1980 nomination speech). Reagan could not have been more gracious to Ford, and took the moment to attack Democrats and unify and bolster the party. He didn't separate himself from the party or the candidate they chose in 1976. He tried to rally the party to his way of thinking, all while throwing his support behind the party to define conservatism.

Cruz took the opportunity to leave the party divided, and make the moment about him. He might as well have said "Look, all you people made a mistake, but that's okay. In four years, you'll be able to correct that with me again, so long as you don't elect Donald Trump in this election."

There’s a reason the Founders restricted the Presidency to Natural Born Citizens. Cruz is an example of what they were trying to avoid.

To me Cruz is a political zombie. One of the walking dead.......

For me Cruz is a certified CINO who fortunately got smoked out in the open for what he is. Don’t know how he could ever repair anything at this point.
