Wasn’t ALL immigration stopped between 1924 and 1965?

No it wasn't stopped. It was more sensibly managed. Millions of people came here in the aftermath of World War II. I know a Jewish lady who was put off a train to a death camp as a young child never to see her parents again. They had arranged for a business associate to pick her up during a brief stop and raise her as their own.

When she applied to immigrate in 1946, her adoptive family was told "Sorry, quota filled, but Brazil has room available."

So they lived in Brazil for a decade until space became available in the United States.

She said it made her appreciate this country all the more since she'd earned her place here.
