Ghostbusters reboot is struggling to break even
Hot Air ^ | 2 Aug 2016 | John Sexton

...Ghostbusters has a reported production budget of $144 million and a print and advertising budget rumored to be around $100 million (it may be much more). So, at a minimum, the distributor needs to rake in about $250 million at the box office to break even.

But here’s the thing the author of the Houston Press piece seems to have momentarily forgotten. The distributor only collects about half of the money that comes in to the box office. The exact amount varies from film to film and depends on which weekend we’re talking about but, in general, the distributor takes a little more than half of the box office (this piece from 2011 says 55%). The figure is slightly less overseas so 50% is a good rule of thumb.

What this means is that in order to make back all the money spent producing and advertising the Ghostbusters reboot, the film needs to make around $500 million at the global box office.

Not going to see it after watching the insipid, annoying trailer. But I have enjoyed rooting against them. A bunch of annoying politically correct hacks.

For the life of me, I simply cannot figure out why on Earth they made a reboot of this flick.

Why? H’wood is out of ideas, and intelligent thought...for a long time, by and large.

ANY movie of whatever genre will rise or fall on the "interest level"

Is anyone really interested in seeing another GB, or Batman or (whatever).

Ghostbusters was entertainingly cute ... once.

Just because female screenwriters hate men doesn’t mean all women hate men.

My wife took my son and nephew to Ghostbusters while I went to Star Trek Beyond the other night. She hated it.

I know - some movies are perfect and timeless as they are.

Almost every single line in the first movie is quotable

What I find amusing is that you can say “Ghostbusters 2” sucked (because “Ghostbusters 2” did suck), and that’s just fine, or you can totally ignore “Ghostbusters 2” (because it’s totally worth ignoring), and that’s just fine - but if you say the Ghostbusters remake sucks, or just totally ignore it, somehow that makes you an ignorant misogynist lout.

The studio was desperate for another GB, and since Murray wouldn’t work with Ramis again because of their feud, they just had to force this one out.

Tax break.

Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge” hits the theaters in November and it will make money.

Also hear that he’s working with Penn on “The Professor and the Madman”. The book is good but Gibson with Penn?

I still laugh at him saying “Fiddel Le Dee” in “The Great Race”.

I'm sure that somewhere, Forrest Tucker smiled along with him.

Its not going to break even...

Petering out at 150M. Even if it got into China somehow it won’t make another 200M which is about where the studios are into it for and to get to break even it need to sell About 500M in tickets for the studios cut to be over the 350M or do they are into it for.

Didn't Ramis die in 2014?
