Mike Pence shows how it’s done in response to a question about Trump and the Khan family

During a town hall meeting in Nevada, Mike Pence was challenged on his support for Donald Trump despite Trump’s comments over the weekend criticizing a gold star family. Pence handled the situation well, first calming the crowd and then offering his respect to the person asking the question and then to the Khan family.

“You have a son in the military, how do you tolerate his disrespect?” the woman asked, referring to Trump’s comments over the weekend criticizing Khan’s family. Before she even finished her question the crowd began to boo. Pence waved for them to settle down. “It’s all right,” Pence said adding, “Folks, that’s what freedom looks like and that’s what freedom sounds like.” This brought a round of applause.

Pence turned back toward the woman, who had taken her seat, and said, “Let me just say first I want to honor your son’s service to the country and your family’s service to the country. I truly do.” This brought another round of applause.

“I know this has been much in the news of late, in the last few days, but as I said last night as Donald Trump said Saturday night, Captain Khan is an American hero and we honor him and honor his family as we do all gold star families in this country,” Pence said.

Pence then went beyond the talking points by adding some detail. “The story of Captain Khan is an incredibly inspiring story. June 8th, 2004 he would fall in Iraq…an explosive device in a taxi,” Pence said. He continued,”He was awarded medals, posthumously, because like any great leader he…the accounts of that were that Captain Khan moved people out of the way, told them stay back and he went toward the danger.” “Honestly, again, Captain Khan is an American hero,” Pence

Trump is winning with women because it was they that asked why Khan’s wife wasn’t allowed to speak.

As for the Mexican sympathizing judge, the Trump movement picked it up on social media and fact checked that the scumbag judge is indeed a sympathizer of La Raza. The Trump movement got that out, and Trump’s followers grew in number as a result.

Trump did not back down from his comments about the scumbag judge. He merely said he would not be commenting further about the judge not because he was wrong, but because there is a court case and his attorneys advised him to make the statement that he would no longer be commenting.

-- It was so flagrant that they couldn't avoid talking about it. --

Cite exactly the "flagrant" remark made by Trump. News story is okay, transcript is much preferred. What was the context, etc.

Hillary’s emails became a temporarily dead subject when Comey listed her crimes and issued her a Get Out Of Jail card

Right. That's why the Bernistas were chanting "lock her up" at the convention. Trump doesn't have enough time or money to slay all the paper dragons they will be throwing his way. That's exactly why he needs to ignore them or tie them in with Hillary's crooked ways. The focus should always be Hillary.

When Bernie’s supporters are chanting “lock her up” the focus needs to be on Hillary and only Hillary. Hell, Hillary went on Fox and lied for no reason about her emails. Even the nits at Morning Joe were reading Mook the riot act over her flagrant lying. Mook was stumbling and stuttering with a red face. This is where Trump’s campaign needs to focus, not on some dirtbag nobody whose valiant son gave his life serving his country.

I can’t use reason to move you from a POV that you didn’t use reason to get to.

Trump has had a series of very high numbers in state polls. He’s trouncing Hillary in Arizona, to name but one.

The national polls right now have indeed been rigged. But you just go on buying that MSM/Dem meme. How clearly I recall the primaries. The polls would be weighted against Trump, and the Trump haters would tell us he was on a downhill slide. We’d say, but people are packing his venues in the 10,000+ range. To which we were told, they’re just coming to witness the free spectacle; they won’t come out to vote.

Enough said.

2/3 of the base is behind Trump, but 99% of the party is attacking him? That math isn’t working for me. Trump can win the vast majority of the party if he keeps his focus on Hillary. The never Trump folks will always be there but their numbers are small and they don’t have nearly the influence you want to assign them. If we wins independents by 10%, you can say president Trump. He needs to keep those indies and the best way to do that is to constantly remind everyone what a dirtbag Hillary is.

The Trump judge is also a Mexican citizen. Don’t expect the Trump haters to report that fact any time soon.

Too bad the primary election isn't the general election, huh?

There isn't anyone who understands national politics who will tell you that you don't have to stay disciplined and on message to win an election. But here you are.....

one would expect based on the person being confrontational

Yup. Trump responded in a confrontational manner that was not warranted given the situation. Pence did not. Makes all the difference in the world.

The only reason Khan gets coverage is because the candidate engages the conversation. The media seek to gin up controversy and Trump took their bait. It's a simple as that.

Serious suggestion. Write to Trump and tell him he’s wasting money on Manafort et al. You, Mase, have all the answers, and you’re willing to work for free.

I’ll wait patiently to hear how he responds.

You’re reading what you want to read. Hillary’s transgressions (rigging DNC outcome, lying about her emails) were so flagrant that the media had no choice but to report on them. And when Bernie’s supporters chant “lock her up” and walk out on Hillary, the media can’t ignore it. This should be the talking points of every exchange republicans have with the media.

Are you referring to the responses given to Stephanopolis?

-- The only reason Khan gets coverage is because the candidate engages the conversation. --

Trump hasn't brought it up for a few days, at least.

From my point of view, you have not been responsive to my questions. I think you are a concern troll. I may be wrong about you, but I don't care.

No, Trump is not winning with women; he is significantly behind with women. He is winning with White men.

The judge is a completely toxic campaign issue, as is confronting gold or blue star parents. Focus on Clinton. That is the target. Focus on the mission.

So Trump needs to focus on something that happened on an MSNBC morning show?

Incidentally, valiant son giving of his life serving his country is now being used as a weapon against said country.

I’d prefer such people and their sons go elsewhere. They hurt more than they help.
