Mike Pence shows how it’s done in response to a question about Trump and the Khan family

During a town hall meeting in Nevada, Mike Pence was challenged on his support for Donald Trump despite Trump’s comments over the weekend criticizing a gold star family. Pence handled the situation well, first calming the crowd and then offering his respect to the person asking the question and then to the Khan family.

“You have a son in the military, how do you tolerate his disrespect?” the woman asked, referring to Trump’s comments over the weekend criticizing Khan’s family. Before she even finished her question the crowd began to boo. Pence waved for them to settle down. “It’s all right,” Pence said adding, “Folks, that’s what freedom looks like and that’s what freedom sounds like.” This brought a round of applause.

Pence turned back toward the woman, who had taken her seat, and said, “Let me just say first I want to honor your son’s service to the country and your family’s service to the country. I truly do.” This brought another round of applause.

“I know this has been much in the news of late, in the last few days, but as I said last night as Donald Trump said Saturday night, Captain Khan is an American hero and we honor him and honor his family as we do all gold star families in this country,” Pence said.

Pence then went beyond the talking points by adding some detail. “The story of Captain Khan is an incredibly inspiring story. June 8th, 2004 he would fall in Iraq…an explosive device in a taxi,” Pence said. He continued,”He was awarded medals, posthumously, because like any great leader he…the accounts of that were that Captain Khan moved people out of the way, told them stay back and he went toward the danger.” “Honestly, again, Captain Khan is an American hero,” Pence

‘How do you make Republicans turn on their own candidate?

Sneak up behind them and say “Boo”.’

Bol! Funny, yet so true.

You wanted a candidate that will stand up and fight the decline of this country, and when that candidate stands up and fights, you sit at your keyboard and question his strategy like a coward?

YOU. MAKE. ME. SICK!

You deserve Hillary Clinton. She will be your champion. She has spent her whole life fighting for you. Oh and watch your back, because she's a lot like you.

Is America worth this fight?

Seems to me that you have lost sight of what this war is over.

There’s no ‘hope’ about it. Trump is winning.

Here is the full text of Khizr Khan’s Speech to the DNC Convention. If Trump let Khan’s words hang in the ether space, his distortions would be etched into the political landscape. When you are in politics, you can’t let the lies take root. Look at what Kahn says and tell me if this is not a smear job?

The speech:

First, our thoughts and prayers are with our veterans and those who serve today. Tonight, we are honored to stand here as the parents of Capt. Humayun Khan, and as patriotic American Muslims with undivided loyalty to our country.

Like many immigrants, we came to this country empty-handed. We believed in American democracy — that with hard work and the goodness of this country, we could share in and contribute to its blessings.

We were blessed to raise our three sons in a nation where they were free to be themselves and follow their dreams. Our son, Humayun, had dreams of being a military lawyer. But he put those dreams aside the day he sacrificed his life to save his fellow soldiers.

Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son “the best of America.” If it was up to Donald Trump, he never would have been in America. Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims. He disrespects other minorities — women, judges, even his own party leadership. He vows to build walls and ban us from this country.

Donald Trump, you are asking Americans to trust you with our future. Let me ask you: Have you even read the U.S. Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy. In this document, look for the words “liberty” and “equal protection of law.”

Have you ever been to Arlington Cemetery? Go look at the graves of the brave patriots who died defending America — you will see all faiths, genders, and ethnicities.

You have sacrificed nothing and no one.

We can’t solve our problems by building walls and sowing division. We are stronger together. And we will keep getting stronger when Hillary Clinton becomes our next president.

After reading the above, go here for a patriotic American’s open letter to Khan:

‘There was nothing stupid about asking why the mother wasn’t allowed to speak.’

Are you sure he asked why? I thought all he did was say he’d like to hear from her.

Both ‘Toliph’ and ‘theoilpainter’ were born on FR less than a year ago and seem to be a tag team. Fairly evident to infer what they’re up to.

Signed in one week apart.

Sometimes you win by fighting when no others had the guts to fight.

Trump has only one enemy he needs to fight: Hillary. The media and DNC want nothing more than to make this election about Trump. Trump needs to make this election about Hillary. Given this fact, Trump's unforced errors here is legitimate criticism. He should learn from Pence and remain focused on the most unlikable democratic candidate for president in our lifetime, not intentional distractions like Khan.

The media practices grab-a-quote-and-spin. It’s what they do. Then Trump spends the next week attacking the media—and the media then gleefully report THAT for another week-— while tedious explanations and elaborations of What He Really Meant are mostly ignored.

Trump needs to try to master The Art of the Sound Bite.

I read theories intimating that capt. Khan held troop reviews outside the gate of the base specifically so that a suicide bomber could kill many more Americans than he would normally be able to kill.

I am dubious of any muslim, sorry.

Oh settle down, emotional twit.

A candidate that stands up and fights isnt any damn good when the fire isnt going at Hillary, but at some utterly forgettable characters that aren’t running for anything.

Now tell us, hothead, how much damage has this done to Hillary?

Not your BS made up assumption, but REALITY.

100 days until the election is not the time to be wasting days on this, no matter how awesome you think it is.

Bringing the mom into it was a cheap shot that came off as mean-spirited. You leave that sort of thing to surrogates.

Pence couldn’t have handled that any better than he did. Trump would be wise to follow Pence’s lead.

Frankly I think Pence is following Trump's lead. They just articulate things differently.

Trump did nothing ‘stupid’. He did the things that make him win. He is winning right now.

Trump did honor the son’s service with genuine sympathy.

Trump responded to an unwarranted attack made by Khan who is an agent of the Muslim Brotherhood and who is now in hiding because he knows he’s in trouble.

Trump brought up the subject of Khan’s wife because women everywhere were asking why she was not allowed to speak at the DNC.

Khan has been severely discredited and is now in trouble. Trump won against him and is seen as a winner of that attack against him. The only people that would think otherwise are those that are very slow on the take while continuing to get their minds programmed by the dinosaur media. Such people are a minority today.

No, he has two other enemies as well.

The Republican Party and the Republican base.

The only unforced error he made that I can see is that he ran for the nomination of a party of backstabbing wonder pussies.

STEPHANOPOLIS: ... He said you wouldn't have even let his son in America.

TRUMP: He doesn't know. He doesn't know that. I saw him. He was, you know, very emotional and probably looked like a nice guy to me. His wife, if you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say. You tell me. But plenty of people have written that. She was extremely quiet. And it looked like she had nothing to say. A lot of people have said that. And personally, I watched him. I wish him the best of luck.
