Gov. Greg Abbott is coming to the defense of a fallen Muslim soldier's family, which has been under attack from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
"The service and devotion of Gold Star families to America cannot be questioned," Abbott said in a statement provided Monday to The Texas Tribune. "Captain [Humayun] Khan, like many heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice, will be forever remembered for their service in protecting the freedoms we cherish in America."
Trump has been clashing with the Khans after Khizr Khan, Humayun Khan's father, delivered an emotional speech Thursday at the Democratic National Convention in which he said Trump had "sacrificed nothing and no one." Trump has since said Khizr Khan had "no right" to criticize him and speculated that the soldier's mother, who also appeared onstage at the Democratic Convention, was not "allowed" to speak.

C’mon folks... Trumped picked the wrong fight. Plain and simple. You don’t attack the family of a fallen soldier. He could have made his point much more deftly than he did. He screwed up and we have to be honest enough to admit it and move on. There’s no excuse.
It is possible the mother was too overcome with emotion from grief to speak.
In the alternative, she may have no appreciation for her son being used as a prop of expediency for her husbands business, which is extremely tight with that of Loretta Lynch and the firm she used to work at which, coincidentally, handles the taxes for Clinton Foundation.
He may still be on retainer with the firm and is certainly looking to further his business interests which run from being a forensic technology expert to seeking pathways for immigrants to the United States, primarily this people emigrating from the Middle East.
He is not “Non-Partisan” in his excoriation of Trump and there is a religious element to Khan.
Clearly Trump represents a threat to his business and religious Interests but, the Internet provides a greater insight into this man and his motivations.

Yes, he should. As hard as it is, he needs to let this die. We all know Trump's beef is NOT with the dead son, but the subversive father. But the longer he engages in the media-driven feud, the more chance the Left has to make this into "something" it isn't.
