Shame on the VFW officials who back the liberal B.S. The stances they take in support of liberal politicians and their attack machines is why I dropped my membership a few years back.

Tried to join the VFW back around 1975 and essentially was told I could join but Vietnam wasn't a real war. Have FU'd the VFW ever since.

One of my closest friends is a Marine vet of Vietnam and had the same experience here in our little town. He feels the same way you do.

Not all Vets can join the American Legion. You have to have served during specific timeframes. Those personnel that served in the armed forces between May 1975 - Aug 1982, Aug 1984 - Dec 89 and Feb 1990 - Aug 2 1990 are not eligible to join the American Legion if their service did not start before or extend after the dates listed.

When my dad got out of he Navy 1n 1945, joined the American Legion. The Legion post was run by WWI vets, didn’t think that the WWII guys had been in a real war like they had been in. When the Vietnam Vets tried to join the post, the WWII guys ran the post, they didn’t think the Vietnam vets had been in a real war like they had been in. When the Gulf 1 and 2 Vets tried to join the Legion, now run by Vietnam vets, the leadership didn’t think they had been in a real war like they had been in. Notice a trend in the line of thinking over 3 generations.

Yes, I see the trend and it sucks, the problem is that it goes nowhere. I can see whats in store for future veterans who will be the special operators and the air force pilots who do the bombing. The real trend has been in the tactical methods from massed charges with bayoneted rifles to focused attacks on strong points and leadership targets. But this doesn’t speak to the central problem, the problem of the veteran getting in for a short beer without being insulted.

Well, there is a little bit of info NOT being shared about the patriot parents occupation...and of course it’s all legal?

excerpt of article written by PAUL BEDARD of the National Examiner 8/1/2016

“Khan specializes in visa programs accused of selling U.S. citizenship”

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/khan-specializes-in-visa-programs-accused-of-selling-u.s.-citizenship/article/2598279

“The father of a Muslim-American soldier killed in Iraq who is caught up in a war of words with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is an immigration lawyer who specializes in a highly controversial program accused of letting immigrants buy their way into the U.S.

“Khizr M. Khan’s website notes that he works to help clients with the E-2 and EB-5 programs that let overseas investors buy into U.S. companies and also provides green cards for family members.

“It also said that he helps in the purchase of U.S. real estate and businesses. The website lists his ability to practice in New York, though it gives a Washington phone number for the lawyer who lives in Virginia. A man who answered the phone said the website was correct, though he would not identify himself.”

VFW needs to get their head and their a$$ wired together. I’m sick of these entitled veteran’s groups, they make us all look bad. As a veteran myself: some of us need to get over ourselves.

VFW is falling into the same trap that a lot of public did with the 9/11 widows that were using it to trash Bush. Just because the guy lost his son in the war, that doesn’t mean that everything that comes out of his pie-hole is some kind of holy nugget.

I was told essentially the same thing regarding Persian Gulf I. It’s not good enough for them that my DD214 says I served in a war zone or that my Southwest Asia Service Medal has a bronze device for serving in a campaign. It’s all good, it says a lot more about them than it says about me.

Ironically, I recently saw a documentary where a Navy LT pilot was hanging out at the VFW. He got his commission in 2005. By their standards, Iraq should not have been a “real” war, either. VFW can go suck an egg.
