Good points, but the situation has drastically changed in Turkey. The 7,000 police last night were conducting a security check on the base due to rumors that a second coup was planned. The base was blockaded as Turkish Police entered the base and made sure the Turks defending the base were not conducting a coup.

Is there an eyewitness report that says this happened? I see the stuff on zerohedgefund, but this is the stuff they did when there were threats to the base. They’d block off all access roads and nobody could go down them. The US personnel there haven’t been allowed off-base for quite a while, due to the ISIS threat. Even if they had personnel go on the base to check on the Turks (and their families) that are stationed there, it’s still nothing out of the ordinary during increased threatcons or direct threats against US personnel there. I’d imagine many of the Turks there are under suspicion and being investigated.
