The Reviews Are In: Conservatives Say
Talking Points Memo ^ | JULY 28, 2016 | KATHERINE KRUEGER

Posted on 07/29/2016 8:51:35 PM PDT by lionstar

Something strange happened on the last night of the Democratic National Convention.

After the GOP nominee lambasted the Democrats on Twitter for displaying what he viewed as too few American flags, there was a sea of waving flags as far as the eye could see when Hillary Clinton became the first woman to accept a major party's nomination on Thursday.

A small faction of protesters chanting "no more war" as General John Allen spoke were quickly drowned out by chants of "USA!" filling the Philadelphia arena. The most notable refrain from the RNC crowd last week: "Lock her up."

The evening also hammered home the stark tonal difference between the two conventions. After Trump painted America as a downcast country in need of a billionaire savior, night after night of all-star DNC speakers preached a sermon of American exceptionalism, with values that unify us all – talking points once exclusively owned by Republicans.

It was enough to give a lot of conservatives whiplash. Here are just a few of them praising the DNC and bemoaning the state of affairs in their own party.

TPM's article is nothing but a big, long appeal to authority. Appeals to authority have never, umm, appealed to me.

That said, the most remarkable chant I heard at the DNC is identical to the one I heard at the RNC ... "LOCK HER UP!"

TPM is run by (((Josh Marshall))) a liberal tool.
Josh Marshall From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Josh Marshall Born February 15, 1969 (age 47) St. Louis, Missouri Occupation Journalist Religion Judaism Spouse(s) Millet Israeli Joshua Micah Marshall (born February 15, 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American Polk Award-winning[1] journalist[2] and liberal blogger[3] who founded Talking Points Memo,[1] which The New York Times Magazine called "one of the most popular and most respected sites" in the blogosphere.[4]

He currently presides over a network of sites that operate under the TPM Media banner and average 400,000-page views every weekday[5] and 750,000 unique visitors every month.[6][7] Marshall and his work have been profiled by The New York Times,[6] the Los Angeles Times,[8] the Financial Times,[9] National Public Radio,[10] The New York Times Magazine,[11] the Columbia Journalism Review,[5] Bill Moyers Journal,[12] and GQ.

[13][14] Hendrik Hertzberg, a senior editor at The New Yorker, compares Marshall to the influential founders of Time magazine. "Marshall is in the line of the great light-bulb-over-the-head editors. He’s like Briton Hadden or Henry Luce. He’s created something new."[5]

so that we can remember who they are:

Conservative writer Ron Fournier:

Well done, @realDonaldTrump. You made Democrats a party of sunny patriotism and values.

National Review editor Jonah Goldberg:

Why this convention is better: It’s about loving America. GOP convention was about loving Trump. If you didn’t love Trump, it offered nada.

John Podhoretz, former Ronald Reagan speech writer and Commentary editor:

Take about five paragraphs out of that Obama speech and it could have been a Reagan speech. Trust me. I know.

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld:

if repubs had championed their principles with specifics rather than embrace autocracy - they wouldn’t have yielded this turf to dems.

Conservative blogger Erick Erickson:

For Republicans who are not social conservatives, I have to imagine last night and tonight at the DNC are having an impact on them.

Conservative Iowa radio host Steve Deace:

So most of conservative media and the GOP spent the week rooting for Russia, and now the Democrats get to rally around the flag.

Dreadful.

Conservative Wisconsin radio host Charlie Sykes:

Do you know how old I am? Old enough to remember when speeches like this would’ve been given at GOP convention… Not Dem one. Brutal.

Rich Galen, press secretary for Dick Cheney:

How can it be that I am standing at my kitchen counter sobbing because of the messages being driven at the DNC? Where has the GOP gone?

Amanda Carpenter, former spokeswoman for Sen. Ted Cruz:

I am sure hearing a lot more about God and faith at the DNC than the RNC.

Commentary editor Noah Rothman:

Republicans could have stopped all this.

Daily Caller Writer Jamie Weinstein:

Now an immigrant medal of honor winner? If the goal is to reach independents and conservatives uneasy w/ Trump, well done Democrats

I hope they all join the democrat party and quit pretending to be conservatives. Then I’ll enjoy watching them get the vapors when Trump crushes their idol Hillary.

According to RCP, 70% think the country is headed in the wrong direction, with only 23% who think it’s going the right way. The country is not in a sunny mood.

Well what can be said? Fools speak foolishness. The more angry the fool the worse it is. If anything this really highlights the quality or more so the lack thereof represented by these “conservatives”. No one in the real America would be fooled by the crud offered up at the DNC convention. It betrays not only their ignorance but reveals why up till Trump we’ve faced a steep climb with such empty headed traitors among our ranks and sadly many of them are not even very good traitors. I can appreciate a truly hateful man or woman who feeling spurned would choose to “burn it all down” but some of these are simply people who have been brainwashed by their own angst to being traitors to their own cause.

Its sad but better we see who these types are now than to continue with them compromised by their weakness and childishness because only children could be fooled by the dog and pony show put on for Clinton. I used to call these the elites but the truth is they never were anything but effete and many just as dependent on dreadful political correctness as any ugly liberal.

I can appreciate a far leftist because they know exactly who they are and what their goals are and will do damned well whatever it takes. These “conservatives” have proven they were never prepared for war only to make money from the drums of it. Finally we have a candidate who is threatening the obscene paradigm of Washington DC and any conservative, libertarian, or independent worth their salt should see value in that. Trump is leading a bloodless revolution. He is breaking through the gates or power in a people led coup of glory.

No he will not be perfect nor will he get everything he wants but its a first step to emboldening the body politic and demonstrating how the bastards in the msm and the political class can be defeated. When people see that you can win and not spend a billion $, you can defeat the media, you can defeat the party insiders, you can do it your way then just maybe more will stand up like the Dave Brat’s and claim the heads of establishment pols who refuse to fulfill the job they were elected to do.

Looks like these asshats bought the ‘dark’ commentary directly given to the Press by the DNC it can be inferred.

Problem was the poll taken by CNN right after showed the majority liked Trump’s speech. So these clowns will shortly be on the outside looking in.

They've exposed themselves as fools but are too stupid/arrogant to know it...

They were all, (like the Democrats) all talk and no action.

Unless you call speech writing with no results to show for them an accomplishment, there's not one notable accomplishment between them.

” I used to call these the elites but the truth is they never were anything but effete and many just as dependent on dreadful political correctness as any ugly liberal.”

not a surprise because a lot of them are neocons. Conservatives will be better off when this crew returns to their first home.

Thanks for the list. Eleven critiques that blur the differences between Republicans and Democrats. I guess the lack of prayer and fasting leads to a failure to see the clear difference between Trump (bold, no script) and Clinton (shifty, dependent on a script).

Did #NeverTrumpers watch the same DNC as the rest of us?

I didn’t hear any appeal to Reaganesque conservatism and America as the last best hope of mankind.

You have so-called conservatives defending socialists and radical leftists.

That is truly stunning! I have no words for it.
