I have been thinking lately that they need to be regulated. There needs to be an oversight board with members elected directly by the people.

Sure, let's give the government total control over the media. What could possibly go wrong with that? And, as long as we are discarding the 1st Amendment, let's have govt. oversight boards determining who we can assemble with, what petitions we can bring, and what religions we can have.

do I need a sarcasm tag?

You mean unlike what we have now, right? By making a media governing board answer to the people, we are not giving "government" control of the media, we are giving an elected board of the people's representatives the ability to reign in media abuse.

As it stands now, Left wing governments have utter and complete control over the media, while Right wing governments have to be subjected to constant Left wing attack from the media. The existing media is full fledged, full-bore, left wing socialist/communist ideologues.

Regulating the thing is about the only idea of which I can think that will change this *EXISTING* paradigm.

You got a better idea? One that stop s the current left wing domination of the media?

Spill it.
