SAN DIEGO — A police officer used a bullhorn to urge a man named Marcos to come out of a house on Epsilon Street just west of 41st Street.

The officer said, "We're not going anywhere. It has been a really long night. I'm worried about you. I haven't heard from you for a while.

"I need to hear from you. You need to talk to me. Your sister ... is really scared. What should I tell her? It's not fair to have your sister so worried about you."

Officers fired repeated gas bombs into the home, which had an armored SWAT vehicle in the driveway.

A prisoner could be seen in the back of a patrol car.

Two San Diego police gang-detail officers making a traffic stop in Southcrest late Thursday night were shot several times, one mortally wounded, triggering a massive police search into the daylight hours. One suspect is in custody.

The names and service history of the male officers, both part of the department’s gang suppression unit, were not released...

An observation:

Many times in police officer shootings, negligence or poor officer safety is partially responsible. That will not be the case here. Gang Suppression officers are very aware of their surroundings and understand officer safety. Especially in this area, the highest activity area in San Diego.

It doesn’t sound like an ambush if it was a traffic stop, but you never know. This is very near a couple of streets I would never drive down without my weapon in my hand.

A San Diego Police Department officer has died and another officer remains hospitalized after a late-night shooting during a traffic stop just south of downtown San Diego. Both officers are part of the force's Elite Gang Unit.

[snip]

But sources told NBC News the suspects are believed to belong to a local San Diego gang and there is no indication at this stage of the investigation that the officers were specifically targeted, as in recent incidents in Dallas and Baton Rouge that collectively claimed the lives of eight officers.

Maybe “Marco” took his own life, which would be the best outcome for everyone.

Why CS grenades? Why not the real deal?

He's a murderer. Time for instant justice.

That is some seriously dreadful writing. As soon as I saw it, I started scrolling down to see how long before somebody commented. Freepers did not disappoint.

GMTA. Give him the same treatment that the LAPD gave to the SLA back in 1974. Flame broil the cop killer.

Tactics got a bit confused in the SLA case. Some of the gunfire “coming from the house” was actually coming THROUGH the house.
