DNC protests fizzle in face of exhaustion, storms, Clinton reality

After a week of raucous protests that some had hoped and others had feared would disrupt the city and the Democratic National Convention, Thursday saw emptying streets, packing protesters, and the dying flame of their clamor.

Across the city, smatterings of protesters held out - and one group planned a final march from South Philadelphia to the Wells Fargo Center Thursday night, a last chance to rally with delegates in the arena.

But the demonstrations that had filled Philadelphia's streets day and night began fizzling on the convention's last day as severe thunderstorms rumbled into the city and exhaustion reigned.

The week had largely proven peaceful. By Thursday morning, Philadelphia police had issued 103 citations and the Secret Service had arrested 11 people for jumping over security fences, police said. Only five of those cited were from the Philadelphia area, according to Police Commissioner Richard Ross, the rest from out of town.

Nine of the arrested demonstrators were released by a U.S. magistrate judge Wednesday and Thursday. Another, a Rhode Island man found with three "throwing knives" as he breached an eight-foot security fence surrounding the Wells Fargo Center, will have to stand trial, and the last will appear in court Friday.

After rowdy crowds roiled Broad Street outside the convention venue on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the reality of Hillary Clinton's nomination had many protesters subdued.

At Franklin D. Roosevelt Park near the Wells Fargo Center, Sanders super-fans who had camped in the grass all week were packing up Thursday to go home. Workers broke down the stage that had hosted several national Bernie delegates at a weeklong event termed "Philly Awakening."

A lot of them have, so the DNC has been advertising for “actors” to fill their empty seats at $50 a night.

One requirement is that they “cheer loudly at all times”

Gotta love that bought and paid for “Unity”

The MSM had ratings visions of Chicago 1968 dancing through their heads. Never was going to happen.

No, but this is better. It is death by apathy and Hillary is being eviscerated by acedia.

“...they’re not even being let into their seats. That could cause a big stink too.”

How big a stink can it be, if the media doesn’t report it?

Did people actually think that self-absorbed leftist millennials would actually show up to sustain a protest at the DNC? I saw someone tweet this the other day, that the most effective way to get a Sanders rally to disperse is to shower them with job applications.
