Tax rates in Chicago and C(r)ook County increasing are not the only problem. What the assessor’s office estimate your property value is also a big factor.

My wife and I have a nice house in the Chicago suburbs, but within C(r)ook County borders. We just got our second installment notice this week. The estimated market value the assessor’s office has put on our house is WAY TOO MUCH. In a good market, I would say it is a fair assessment. But with my neighbor, who has a bigger house, can’t sell it even though it is priced 25% below market, then I’m being screwed.

About two years ago my daughter wanted to buy a house or condo in Chicago. I told her flat out not to do such a thing. I could see the never-ending battle with teachers unions and pension problems would force taxes to go up. She decide to rent for awhile longer and thanks me for the advice.

We lived in DuPage many moons ago. A lot of our friends are gone now too. We live in a nice suburb in Dixie now with some of the highest property taxes in the state. Still, only about 1% of market value per year (vs. 5-7% up there)

Wait a minute. I thought all those fat government worker pensions were paid for by unicorns and rainbows. Where did I go wrong?

Dumba$$, you need to vote for democrats so they can make the rich pay your taxes.

I believe Mayor Rahmbo’s home is tax exempt because he claims part of it as a nonprofit

Sweet deal
Just find the right lawyer to set up your family as a nonprofit

you need to study up on the difference between assessed value and market value. If they happen to be the same it is only a coincidence. That is reality.

"We might have to consider selling. I don't know if we'll be able to afford it," said Phillips of his Rogers Park home.

Good luck with that.

We left in 1976. But I’d bet a quarter that we’re still voting in Cook County!!

Yeah, zero sympathy with Chicagoans on this one. It takes a lot of money to feed, clothe and house all those useless feeders, doesn't it?

Attention "Hope_and_Change City" voters. You just gotta be more willing to pay your "fair share", that's all. Starting with the most affluent. And these "homeowners" need to dig a little deeper, because of their privileged "homeowner" status.

Becuz Democrat voters don't come cheap. Well, actually that's not correct. They're a hell of lot cheaper than slaves. You can get most of them with a pack of cigarettes and a scratch-off lotto ticket.

But the buses that the Dems send out to scour the south side neighborhood crack houses and soup kitchens on voting day don't come cheap. So pony up, you rich home "owning" bastards!

I’ve been here 10 years, but have you noticed how crowded it’s getting? I’m not talking about just the high season but year around.

I have a stock dialog with my liberal friends who champion various government programs.

Me: Spell “Money.”

Them: “M O N E Y”

Me: You forgot the “F”

Them: There’s no “F” in “Money.”

In fact, I’ve been without a tagline for a while, I think I use this.

Me: Now you get it.

I understand the difference between assessed value and market value. But the assessed value should rise proportionately with the market value.

That being said, they’re telling me my house is worth a lot more than reality and I should pay more in taxes. Am I going to fight this? Yeah, but it’s a long complicated process rigged by the county.

This is what happens when voters elect Democrat Mafia to run their cities. The voters should fully expect the “mafia enforcers” to come around and break their knees if they do not pay their taxes.

When will ALL voters realize that government employees are ripping them off?

There are too many Republican voters who do not understand all government employees are against them.

there should be a requirement that ALL public employees live within the cities/counties that they work....

let them pay the stinking property tax to keep them in their lap of luxury..

True. Firemen, Teachers & Police ALL vote Democrat.

So now, why should they get a smidgeon of our respect?

They are destroyers of our cities.
