Ali was Mohammed’s (thee Mohammed’s) cousin and married Mohammed’s daughter Fatima. He was greatly respected as a scholar, but was thought to be to young and timid to take rule immediately after Mohammed’s death. Later Ali became Caliph and at the time had one son, this was Mohammed’s grandson.
Ali was killed in Karbala (Iraq) by a rouge Arab Muslim governor/warlord from Damascus along with his son, this son was Mohammed’s grandson -then sole male heir to the profit’s bloodline. Later, Ali’s head was put on displace on a wall in Damascus.
Shiite’s stridently believe the caliphs should have come from Mohammend’s bloodline, Sunni’s greatly downplay the significance -after all it was an Arab would be Sunni that destroyed the bloodline of the profit.
This Islamic dirty laundry never gets discussed.

That Sunni, Shiite split, really helped out us Kafirs(Infidels)
Sunnis and Shiites have been killing each other for over a thousand years, and it is still going on today.
Both Muslim groups agree on killing us Kafirs, but expend some of that energy in killing each other.
A lot of lost ground can be made up by Muslims using atomic weapons on us Infidels and not on each other. -Tom
