To clarify how this works. Anyone subscribed to the sub /r/the_donald can post a question. Anyone can read the posts but only members can ask questions. Anyone that is a member of Reddit overall can up or down vote posts. The person doing the Ask Me Anything chooses which questions to answer and they are posted as replies. Best way to just view is wait for it to start and then sort comments by BEST to get those answered to come to the top.
This sub is extremely active and varied. It’s very Alt-right meaning fiscal conservatives that are moderate socially. Immigration is a huge issue in this sub and many lines Trump has used have originated there. I’m convinced he has people monitoring it and trying out new attacks to see how they react. Popular ones make it into his speeches “Trump Train”, “Nimble”, “Build it 10 feet higher”, and others have originated here. It has also popularized Clinton New Network which he is now regularly using. They also have archived all his tweets for the past 10 years or so. The place is a gold mine but not for the faint of heart. As mentioned, he is referred to as the “God Emperor Trump” (Dune reference) and as “Daddy”(Milo)
He is getting great adverting for next to nothing. He is spending nothing and everyone is talking about whatever he posts.

Many game designers, celebrities, Silicon Valley bigwigs use this to reach out and promote their projects, interests, etc.
Trump is smart to do this. I don't know how many of the incoming questions are screened -- I imagine he will see all and select some worthy of responses -- but this engagement has the appearance of openness and transparency, which are values generally respected and expected by millennials.
It also reinforces that Trump is hip, social media saavy, and modern as opposed to Hillary who is out of touch, stuck in the 90s (email is considered old-fashioned by millennial standards) and evasive (she won't do press conferences or make herself available to public scrutiny).
Gawker media's tech site Gizmodo today was making fun of her lame smartphone app where you can decorate your campaign office on your phone that was released today.
