Germany’s coalition government has promised to seek whatever legal means necessary to prevent another mass shooting. But if the weapon was acquired illegally, stricter controls on gun purchases may not be the answer.

In the wake of the shooting in Munich that left nine people and the gunman dead, German leaders on Sunday were already preparing talks on stricter gun control. Both ruling parties, the center-right Christian Democrats (CDU) of Chancellor Angela Merkel and the center-left Social Democrats (SPD), agreed that more stringent laws were necessary to prevent copycat attacks. […]

Police have confirmed that the killer did not have a permit, and thus that his weapon was obtained illegally, though how still remains a mystery. This also means that any legal preventive action will have to address the illicit gun market, for which action by the German government may not be enough. …

Don’t let the press fool anyone. Or the demeanor of the politicians.

I used to love visiting Germany. I will miss it. But it see,s like the perfect place to run such an experiment as soon as possible, rather than the incremental infringement we have now.

Easy. Just put Hitler back in charge. That worked so well the first time.

Governments of the West are fumbling in the dark in a desperate attempt to ignore the elephant in the room.

Many more thousands will have to die before the people themselves take out the trash.

We have generations now that really have no conception of fighting for their lives.

I don't know how he actually got it, and if that was in the story, sorry I missed it.

I was just commenting on the silliness of the police who thought it was such a mystery how a bad guy could get a gun. "Was ist das? Gun control didn't work? Unmöglich!"

Muslims kill. Weapons are just inanimate tools that never killed by themselves. A hammer is neither good nor bad; it just is.

Something about that sounds sort of like the ole barn door - horse situation.

Guns are not the problem. Leaving the barn door open is the problem.

The articles on this story are all saying “dark web” as the source. Which only makes me more curious.

This ‘refugee crisis’ immigration is a slow-burning Riechstag fire. Only thing different this time is that the tyrants are a global cabal...not just in Germany: a world-wide criminal government. People are already dying. Remember ‘never again’? And the useful idiots have been shamed... for decades...into subverting rational though. I observed the effect even at the RBC: ‘ Is it OK to agree with Trump?’ The anxiety was written on a lot of the faces.
