Yes, Mills Godwin. I read that there is a current controversy about naming another school for Godwin because he was at one time an avowed segregationist. But the voters of Virginia re-elected him in the mid 70s, long after segregation was an issue in Virginia.
Different school, different man. Harry Flood Byrd Middle School, my son went there as well. That is the one getting a new name, he was the segregationist.
