Doesn’t the “California Effect” still guarantee stuff happening on a national level? Jerry Brown signed that phase-in of $15 minimum wage over six years, even though he admitted that “(e)conomically” it does “not make sense”.

At $15/hr. waitstaff don’t need tips. Ohhhh, nooooo! Can’t have that because tips is how they the big bucks. I know one who makes $100-300 a shift at the mall. On a slow night, wages and tips come to $30/hr. for unskilled labor. On a good night, over $50/hr. just keeping water glasses full. Not to mention most tips never show up on their taxes.

One of my friends is a regular there along with some coworkers. While the reasons given probably played a major role as well, my friend said the owner was offered mucho dinero for his property.

Where did the offer come from?

Can’t see any business succeeding there no matter what. Candidate for “affordable housing”?

There is no $15 Minimum Wage.

Employers have other costs that add to their total Employee Compensation.

It’s more like $18 an hour.

What will they do now?

I recommend when they get really hungry to go find some politicians to eat.

That makes sense. Why not sell out and make a lot of Money out of it? Even though only New York and California (and a few other places) are instituting the $15 minimum wage, what we are seeing is an intense pressure for the fast food/restaurant industry to automate. We will see an increased use of kiosks so we wont have to pay for waiters.

And I’ll see a lot more home cooking.

Seems to me that the left is actually pushing automation by doing this.

If you could not work you went to jail

Jail isn't a bad place in the US. A charge of homelessness won't get you sent to a max security unit so the threat of gang violence isn't a worry. Free room, board, color tv, gym membership, arts and crafts, no late fees at the library, no passing of the collection plate during church services, free dental, free gender surgery, etc.

How about a minimum-profit law for employers expected to pay these externally dictated wages?

Comes out of their general revenue fund.

On the other hand, who wants to eat at a place that pays the chefs less than 15/hr? Jeez, is the guy hiring bums to cook food?

Leftists don’t pay according to merit, although they think they do. NYC mayor John Lindsay (1966-1973) thought that way, i.e. one must offer $40,000 per year for positions that were then paying half that amount, in order to attract people worth the higher amount; instead, he ended up with people worth $20,000 being paid double. And now that is being forced on the private sector.

The ones that are protesting for the minimum wage escalation probably don’t have a job to worry about. What they are too stupid to realize is there are going to be a lot fewer jobs in the future because the businesses won’t reopen and new businesses won’t come along to replace the ones these “progressive” buttheads drove out of business.

“To add insult to injury, there are the ever-increasing Department of Health regulations, so Cuomo stuck it to these businesses double”

All in the plan, drive the little to the gutter, open an Apple store, Starbucks or Chipolte in it”s place. Much higher tax base.

10th Amendment-protected state powers are not immune to social Darwinism. I suppose that we can always remove cities from the map and stars from the flag for cities and states that implode.
