Donald Trump's eldest daughter introduced two progressive issues her father hasn't championed on the campaign trail: equal pay for women and making childcare more widely accessible.

"He will fight for equal pay, equal work, and I will fight for this too, right alongside of him," Ivanka Trump said in remarks introducing the GOP presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention Thursday night. ..... < snip >

..... "As president, my father will change the labor laws that were put in place at a time when women were up a significant portion of the workforce," she said. "He will focus on making quality child care affordable and accessible for all." ..... < snip >

Equal pay for equal work is already on the books. Years of experience is one of the criteria used to assess equality. I would think as long as equal pay laws are on the books, we would support the rule of law. Furthermore, Ivanka said a goal would be affordable child care. She did not mention government subsidized child care. Outrage for the statement seems a little premature. I certainly would not be outraged if the excuse of lack of affordable child care was no longer a valid argument for staying home and collecting welfare.

For a conservative Christian, how does this turn out OK? I definitely prefer Trump to Clinton, but really have no candidate in this race.

We are having this interesting conversation in my home, I’ve been stay at home Mom for 20 years and now preparing for re-entry, I will make 1/3 of what my husband earns. I, we sacrificed in order for me to be home and now my wages will never catch up to his. I have no regrets though.

Listening to Ivanka I thought she was saying that in actual oractice her father encourages families and pays and accommodates mothers who work for him. Being a private business man that is his judgment call.

I dont. If someone has more experience and more years at a company i do not have a problem with them earning more than someone doing the exact same thing on day 1. If the company decides to do that.

But women tend to take periods of time off and they are not working doing compony work, that time is lost, and men who keep working their entire careers will and ought to be in line for promotions and advancement faster because their career is how their family is provided for.

In all reality, the country will probably never be run by a conservative Christian. But, DOnald Trump seems dead set on putting our country first and tearing apart the insider club that has taken over beltway culture.

Along with that he seems to be the only person on the national scene willing to call out the media for their false and biased reporting, or propagandizing.

I have long hoped for a political shift that would become a referendum on the media and (hopefully) destroy it's ability to influence gullible and lazy people enough to control elections. Maybe, just maybe, Donald Trump is being called to serve us all.

Good grief. She did not say federal funded daycare although many get subsidized now. Affordable daycare was what she said. If the government got off the back of all small business including daycare facilities, services could be provided at a cost that is affordable. Don’t get your panties in a wad!

“No new federal welfare programs, please.”

What—you think $19.4 trillion of debt is too much? You piker!

If a person, a man or a woman, has more years at a company doing their job effectively, chances are they produce more or better product than any newbie.

Also time taken off from work is always a factor in evaluating an employee.

Which was my point, that it is very difficult for outsiders to judge who is doing work on par with whom. Unless the job is fairly straight forward such as working on an assembly line, it is best to leave it to the employer to decide wage levels for individuals.

I had to explain to the folks I was watching the speeches with that the stat she noted was incorrect in that it lumped all jobs men and women to together instead of looking at individual job classes.

Substitute "I" for "my father," and it sounds like another candidate's speech...
"In 2014, women made 83 cents for every dollar made by a man. Single women without children earn 94 cents for each dollar earned by a man, whereas married mothers made only 77 cents. As researchers have noted, gender is no longer the factor creating the greatest wage discrepancy in this country, motherhood is. As President, my father will change the labor laws.."
Just keep her out of any policy position.

He may be good for us financially (we’ll see how that works out), but given this atmosphere there is no reason to believe that abortion, “gay marriage”, or affirmative action will ever be discussed at the federal level again. It appears to me that these are now settled issues...

I have a nephew who wanted to play around and now in his thirties realized he should have been making a strong work record.

Family is a must, but truely a choice as is going to work.

Work more, get more. Work less, get less.
In general comparable women to men get paid more from what I read in the past.

[Publicly-funded childcare...]

I was hoping with more jobs, mothers would want to stay home and raise their children.

Yup.

I’m not a Trumpbot.

I’m not taken in by her feminism and belief the government needs to manage family time.

That’s not where I come from.

My current issue is publicly funded preschool. None of my children attended preschool, and all are fine students and most are socially well adjusted. Preschool would not have made any of them perform better in first grade or beyond. But high quality preschools do help our most at-risk children. Any old preschool won’t do. Anywho, we have high quality preschools being pushed in our state, Alabama. There are not enough of them for all Alabama children to get in. Thus, there is a selection process. If the schools are federally funded Title I schools, then children have to meet certain criteria to get in. THE FEDS are forcing Alabama schools to accept FOREIGN CHILDREN over our very own most at risk children. This burns me up. It burns me up that there will be 15 or 20 out of 48 spots taken by FOREIGN students in our elementary. American BLACK children will be pushed aside for the children of foreigners (Muslim) to receive free day care. And don’t get me started on these families breeding while they are here so they will have anchor babies.

Ivanka appears to be announcing what specific liberal causes she'll be involved in if her father is elected....something a potential First Lady usually announces during her husband's campaign, not a First Daughter. Something about this makes me a tad uneasy....I hope we're not voting for a twofer here on some social issues.

Didn’t hear her say “Publicly-funded Childcare”.

Not sure if she meant that, but she didn’t say it.

The devil is in the details. We shall see.

Either way it’s Trump or the Frump. The only two choices.
