Donald Trump: A Working Stiff in a Brioni Suit
American Thinker ^ | July 22, 2016 | Peggy Ryan

Posted on 07/22/2016 5:20:15 PM PDT by Kenny

The establishment's in meltdown, the media's on suicide watch, and the donor class are sobbing uncontrollably on their therapist's couch.  The reason: Donald J.  Trump is the 2016 Republican nominee.  Yep, the billionaire media star the people can't get enough of and Washington can't get rid of has closed the deal. So how did this happen?  Lord knows Washington royalty threw everything they have at this guy, but all the king's money and all the king's men can't knock Trump off his Mexican-funded wall.

The left's explanation for Trump's staying power is voter anger, but we've been Hulk-pissed for years, so what's different in 2016?  The difference is that we the people have one of our own to lead, someone we trust to break the government chains and free the American people from establishment despotism.

Granted, no one thought the people's liberator would show up in a private jet and then switch to his personal limo, but that's our guy.  And if you'd told me any time before June 2015 that I'd support a guy who's been working the system for most of his career, funding the very leeches who are kneecapping the American people, I'd have called you crazy.

Yet here I am, all in for the Donald.  Not because of his very public confession at the outset of his campaign that he himself is a no-good, corrupt, establishment type – that was not exactly an endearing admission.  Nor was it his sincere, heartfelt contrition, because I'm pretty sure that never happened.

So why?  Why, oh why are we letting this political neophyte with no government experience and a shady background hijack the American political process?  The answer: he's one of us, a working stiff living in the real world of everyday.

This is where the Washington elite will never get it, because they have no point of reference for actual work. Their careers are rooted in words, volumes of empty rhetoric. There's no passion in their lives, no driving ambition, no actual product to inspire personal pride.

I really don’t mean to elevate Trump beyond his station — I like him a lot, but I don’t see him as perfect — but I’ll just point out that George Washington and John Hancock were fabulously rich individuals. They put everything on the line because they loved this country. Trump may be a billionaire, but he loves the US and he wants to help the people. Most politicians can’t honestly say that. He can.

You have to go far and wide in D.C. to find anyone who understands either a practical trade or a learned profession - a real profession that provides services that people happily part with hard earned cash for. Folks here don't know how to wire a socket, hang sheet rock, or sweat a pipe. As Eric Trump said "We are as comfortable in a D-10 Caterpillar as we are in our own cars."

First time I heard Trump I knew he was the guy for the job, but in my childhood I was a nuclear submarine officer and had to learn the function and operation of every pump valve and switch. Rickover made me, and I had to learn it from second class petty officers only a couple of years out of high school.

Their careers are not rooted in words, but in propaganda. They have no respect for words, or The Word. They twist words. They knife words in dark alleys and make them do their dirty work. Truth as revealed in words or God's word is foreign to them. There is no truth, just power, what little bit of it their empty flaccid souls can muster, which really isn't very much.

IIRC, Washington did well buying land, Martha was a loaded widow, but I think I read that Washington had to borrow money to make it to his first inauguration.

I don’t begrudge anyone their money. Provided they got it honestly. He can wear what he wants. Fly in any plane he wants. Own anything he wants. No envy here. He is a hard working high energy fellow. That type usually does well.

That's one thing I've noticed about candidates, both Democrat as well as Republican- they keep trying to gravy-train on their parents' coattails.

Whether it's John Kasich talking about his dad being a mailman, or somebody's dad being a war hero, or someone's mom working 3 jobs at 80 hours a week just so they could become some pretentious leech, or ride on the back of some draft-dodging raping pedophile errr, "allegedly", just so they can destroy become leader of the free world.

That's why I like President Trump-he came from a wealthy family, but his accomplishments are his own.

I'm not a writer. But, a lot of my profession is trying to make sense of things, and I have a lot of experience in pointing out how the idiotocracy in D.C. makes it impossible to try to make sense after they have turned things into utter nonsense.

Common sense is common sense because our brains evolved through survival by solving 99% + of the problems humans face. Washington dispenses with common sense entirely. Once you understand that you don't even try to understand them. Understanding is not to be had. Utterances are not logical thought but tribal incantations - both sides. It's like Maori war paint - it's meant to impress, but no one really wants the killing to begin.

Link to article doesn’t work. Lots of things on the internet haven’t “worked” since Donald made his acceptance speech. Funny how that is.

Interesting that he wears Brioni. I would have bet that he wore tailor made suits.

Loved your comments.  Also an ex-Navy officer in the surface fleet.  And I also saw the great value in learning and interacting with the enlisted sailors.

I served aboard small ships like a tanker and destroyer.

A small ship or submarine is a microcosm of the larger world where everyone is dependent on one another.  And in a tight community like that you need to make peace with other and follow your roles and respect the people who have authority over you.  Someone must lead. Others must follow. But there's mutual respect.

Though I never noticed it before, perhaps this is one of the enduring lessons from my nine years in the Navy.

Obama and moochie parading around in wildly expensive, TAXPAYER FUNDED clothes, and the left is worried about Trumps suits.

He’s been a top New York businessman for decades, what’s he supposed to wear, overalls?

The answer: he's one of us, a working stiff living in the real world of everyday.

Trump has spent 50 years in a business where he MUST have rapport with working class people.

Who is going to tell him about looming issues with his properties before they become BIG problems? The people who see everything: the maids, the janitors, the workmen, the people working the front desks. It's from THESE people that he gets a feel for how things are going, before the issues become big enough to show up on the balance sheet.

Thus, he learned how to chat with workers, something that elite politicians don't generally do.
