The Supreme Court of Virginia has ruled against Gov. Terry McAuliffes order restoring voting rights to more than 200,000 felons who completed their sentences, a decision that dealt a major blow to the Democratic governor and has implications for the November presidential race in the crucial swing state.
In a 4-3 ruling issued Friday, the court ruled that McAuliffe overstepped his clemency powers under the state constitution by issuing a sweeping order in April restoring rights to all ex-offenders who are no longer incacerated or on probation or parole.
The court agreed with state Republicans who challenge McAuliffes order, arguing voting rights should be restored on a case-by-case basis.

**Virginia court invalidates Gov. Terry McAuliffes order restoring felon voting rights**
Good!
Just the mathematics of odds require occasional good news.
I needed all this today!!! :)
God is good!
Hence the need for Kaine.....
Maybe I’ll reach out to them in NY.
What a typical dim-bulb!! His IQ keeps dropping...You DO know that if your darling felons can obtain illegal guns, they can also get an auto-pen??
Where do these absolute imbeciles come from and actually get elected?
Terry McAuliffe consumes oxygen that should be used by turtles and rabbits......who contribute more to society.
Good. I bet he ignores it and they have to remove him.
They can only win by cheating.
The Virginia constitution allows for the Gov. to one by one on a case by case basis restore felon rights after the debt to society has been paid. In an effort to help #crookedhillary in a swing state, Clintonista McAuliffe carte blanche, en masse restored rights in hopes of getting those people to vote for her. State Senator, Rob Bell who is running for the GOP nomination for state Attorney General in 2017, among others, took it to court as a violation of the state constitution. Thankfully, this court agreed.
Thank you for the information. To me it doesn’t seem right. I would hope it is the desire of the Governor to ensure all of his citizens get their constitutional rights. But as you pointed out, it is the Virginia constitution controlling this matter. Obviously, plenty of people go to prison and are never reformed.
I still can’t believe Virginia voted for McAuliffe (a Clinton bag man) over Cuccinelli.
Word around here in D.C. is that Cuccinelli didn’t support the establishment ruling elite Repubs and they turned on him.
It appears now he got the message and has gone to the dark side. Sad.
Cuccinelli said he received ZERO help from the RNC
I think a felon should be allowed to run for office. I doubt he/she would get very far. But think about this, someone with a DUI is a felon, should they be banned from office after 20 years of sobriety?
Well, yeah!
wah-wah.
You’re enjoying your day, everything’s going your way, when along comes Debbie Downer. Always there to tell you ‘bout a new disease, a car accident, or killer bees. You beg her to spare you, ‘Debbie, please!’ but you can’t stop Debbie Downer!
It will go to federal court, and be EXPEDITED.
SOME DAY conservatives judges NEED TO LEARN the word TIMING, and keep things to themselves until it is too late to overturn.
Still nice to win a round, but don’t expect any more victories.
Calling "Whoa!" on this.
Remember the DUI on GWB in Maine revealed just prior to the 2000 election?
Don't think DUI is a felony charge (had one m'self)
Because Felons are bad people and are to be shunned and shamed out of civilized life.
The reason being so felons will get sent back into the system and earn the state and feds more money.
It’s all about the money.
