Why? Because Donald Trump delivered Thursday night and did what he needed to do. No, he didnt deliver a speech with great oratorical flourish. No, he didnt broaden the base of the party significantly though he did speak about minorities and the LGBTQ community in ways that he hadnt done before.
What Trump did, and he did it very well, was to raise the stakes of the election and define it in his own terms. Law and order, crime in the streets, and terror. He managed to make the argument, compellingly, that these challenges were the central ones America faced and that given the failures of President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, his way of change was the only way to go.
It was a long speech, it ran well over an hour and it was repetitive in parts. But that doesnt matter. Trump was ultimately speaking to a fairly discrete and arguably specific constituency of Americans. Concentrated, though not exclusively, in the swing states of the industrial Midwest.
Trumps remarks were directed at the 70-odd percent of Americans who feel the country is on the wrong track and his remarks were designed to amplify those feelings and offer in general terms a different way forward.

Which of the 16? Not a single one of them! Not a one! And frankly that very sad. But am thankful delighted that we have Mr. Trump!

7...interspersed with well timed/composed Twitter posts - I think Trump has mastered the use of social media in a presidential campaign
Not run scared. They’re caught between a hunter and a trap. Trump and truth. They’ll hiss and spit and slash and bite.
Great stuff from the Last Honest Democrat
She is hemmed in. Trump threw so much stuff at her last night she is now forced to play defense on 35 fronts. The Clinton political strength is triangulation, but the radical Left has been so strengthened in the Dem Party that she has no room to maneuver. If she tries to make moves to the center BLM and the BernieBots will go apes*** on her. They’re already threatening a revolt if she picks Tim Kaine as her VP.
lol good picture
A left-leaning entertainment-related message board I frequent is eerily silent about politics this morning. I think the stunned DNC is late getting the day's talking points ready for their seminar posters, and since they don't actually have opinions of their own they have nothing to write. :)
‘I AM NOT A CROOK”
Oh my goodness. Mrs. Clinton PLAGIARIZED that phrase from Republican Richard M. Nixon.
I believe it was the ending phrase of Mr. Nixon’s speech, defending whatever. I admdit to forgetting the issue de jour.
Trump is exhibit one....a real man and a real American who will be the new manager (and sheriff) in town
Name his cabinet
Thanks
1. Check post # 35...last line
2. Check MY post #49. “Hoist on own petard.”
especially SHE quoting Richard Nixon
6...Putin releases more Clinton emails.
Of course they are all playing from the same sheet of music. Almost in unison they denounced the "dark, foreboding" character not only of Trump's speech, but of the entire convention.
Often using the very same words and always the very same themes.
Those who actually watched will know it's part of the Big Lie. But many of the 300mil who did not watch will read these headlines, sometimes the entire first paragraph...and the themes will be reinforced by every Dem Pol and every TV News room.
And this is why, at some date in the future, we must kill the press.
Mr. Trump pretty much has won the White House late last night.
She pretty much has lost the election and is in shock.
Thanks.
Hillary running scared? Ha! I bet FedEx is delivering a carload of Pampers right now.
I am not suggesting anything like moral equivalency between Richard Nixon and Hillary or Bill Clinton. His transgressions were minor in comparison with those of the Clinton crime syndicate.
SCARED (of Trump) seems to be the operative word today after his speech and I like it:-)
Go Trump Go!
