Men, this stuff that some sources sling around about America wanting out of this war, not wanting to fight, is a crock of bullshit. Americans love to fight, traditionally. All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle. You are here today for three reasons. First, because you are here to defend your homes and your loved ones. Second, you are here for your own self respect, because you would not want to be anywhere else. Third, you are here because you are real men and all real men like to fight. When you, here, everyone of you, were kids, you all admired the champion marble player, the fastest runner, the toughest boxer, the big league ball players, and the All-American football players. Americans love a winner. Americans will not tolerate a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win all of the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost nor will ever lose a war; for the very idea of losing is hateful to an American. ...
There is one great thing that you men will all be able to say after this war is over and you are home once again. You may be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you what you did in the great World War II, you WON'T have to cough, shift him to the other knee and say, "Well, your Granddaddy shoveled shit in Louisiana." No, Sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say, "Son, your Granddaddy rode with the Great Third Army and a Son-of-a-Goddamned-Bitch named Georgie Patton!"General Patton's Address to the Troops

I’m really glad that I went to college AFTER doing 6 years in the Navy. THEY didn’t like it much, I wasn’t intimidated by the system and knew how to use it against those that tried to scare me with it.

“Can anyone on FR imagine these delicate little flowers going up against the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese during 1938-1945?”
As an aside, I can barely imagine the US going up against the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese these days. Can you imagine if we had to fight those wars with the same Rules of Engagement we have now? Imagine if we had to fight the war without accidentally killing one “innocent” German or Japanese citzen?

Student loans should be dischargable and thus certain degrees will become too high risk for loans. (ie feminist basket weaving studies of underpaid lead female characters in television shows)

What does a “safe space” look like? Do they cover the windows? Someone playing a folk guitar quietly? Candles? Serve cookies? Fruit punch? Free massages?

On my 18th birthday I got my orders to Viet Nam (who says the Army does not have a sense of humor). Within 30 days I was on patrol in some nameless jungle. I was not looking for a “safe space”, I was looking for an enemy to shot (and over the course of a year I found them, or they found me).
Historians are going to have a field day trying to figure out how our nation went from the warrior nation of WWII to a nation of babies in 2016.

I agree. I’m doing fine with my engineering degree. The people that went into liberal arts and philosophy, not so much. The hordes of treehuggers that got a forestry degree found out that it’s a fast-track to the food service industry.
