This was what Newt said, following the Cruz speech. During Newts speech, he “paraphrased” Cruz’s speech. I think this is from Newts teleprompter.

I interpreted Gingrich's remark as suggesting to the crowd Cruz did, in fact, implicitly endorse Trump (while knowing Cruz did not an offer an explicit endorsement).

That was from Newt’s speech.
Cruz gave Trump the speech in part a couple days before and the complete speech earlier in the day.
It wasn’t a surprise. That was why the Texas delegation was moved from the floor and the NY delegation to the front.

I have lost all respect for Cruz. Trump shouldn’t have trusted him to do a speech. I am sure its a mistake that Trump will not make a second time. Trump makes a great friend—and a terrible enemy.
