Cruz aides made late push for Trump endorsement
The Hill ^ | July 20, 2016 | Jonathan Swan

CLEVELAND — Just hours before Ted Cruz took the stage for his convention speech Wednesday night, senior members of Cruz's team were still pushing him to endorse Donald Trump. Cruz never wanted to endorse Trump and is still furious about the personal attacks the GOP presidential nominee made on his family during the primary campaign, sources familiar with the speech preparations told The Hill.

But top aides had concluded he needed to formally endorse Trump at the Republican National Convention.

For Cruz, it was always personal. During the primaries, Trump repeated a tabloid conspiracy theory linking Cruz's father to the man who assassinated President Kennedy, and he tweeted a picture that ridiculed the appearance of Cruz's wife, Heidi.

Trump has never expressed much contrition for those actions.

Still, some aides to Cruz, a Republican senator from Texas, were pushing him to endorse Trump for the sake of his own political future.

Cruz has indicated intentions to run for president again in 2020, and he has a team forming behind him to execute that plan. 2020 was the unspoken undertone beneath the drafting Wednesday night's speech.

Allies of Cruz, a number of whom have spoken privately to The Hill throughout this week, have been worried about what effect not endorsing Trump would have on the senator's future.

Ted defied them. It's personal. It's not like Ted did anything personal to Dr. Carson, right? It's not like Ted ever did anything personal like lie about Trump, right?

Ted Cruz Lies TEN Times in Under FIVE Minutes! (about Trump)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LI-SGrum8lQ

I am also sick and tired of this crap about him attacking Ted Cruz's wife. First, he retweeted a picture of her that wasn't so flattering next to his wife. Let's remember how this whole thing began now shall we?

Trump was responding to a photo of Melania Trump in GQ magazine nude. The photo was posted with writing on it that said, "Meet Melania Trump, Your Next First Lady, Or, You Could Support Ted Cruz On Tuesday."

Trump Tweeted on March 22, "Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a photo of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!

He then retweeted that Tweet with two pictures (one of pretty Melania and other of a less than flattering Heidi) that said, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

The next day Ted responded, "Donald, real men don't attack women. Your wife is lovely, and Heidi is the love of my life."

Oh, really. On March 8th, a Cruz supporter and Texas based lobbyist named Andrea McWilliams said on Neil Cavuto:

“If Donald trump is elected, Mrs. Trump will be the first first lady that has ever posed nude; the first first lady that’s the third wife [of the president]; and the first foreign-born first lady in this century.”

Did Ted repudiate her?

Let's go even farther back to August of 2015, prominent Cruz supporter Glenn Beck wrote this in a Facebook post loaded with lies about Donald Trump:

"...the First Lady would be the first to have posed nude in lesbian porno shots;"

https://www.facebook.com/GlennBeck/posts/10153556923133188

Did Ted Cruz ever have Beck disavow this statement or did he disavow this statement prior to accepting his endorsement?

Anyway, moving back to the G.Q. picture. That picture was released by the Make America Awesome Pac run by Liz Mair who used Romney in one of her ads urging people to vote for whoever had the best chance to beat Trump in whatever state. This ad was aimed at Mormon women in Utah.

Ted Cruz said on March 23 on Twitter, "Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought. #classless https://t.co/0QpKSnjgnE

Ted Cruz is claiming he had no knowledge of the ad. The ad, however, hit the media on March 21 as best I could tell by Google search. No, campaigns aren't supposed to work with Super Pacs, but I saw this ad before Trump Tweeted about it. It was all over the internet. Are you telling me no one alerted Ted to the fact that ad was out there? Ted could have condemned it publicly when he first found out and said he didn't want his name attached to that. Is there any proof Ted ever asked them to take it down?

Further, this is from a Mediaite comment:

"Make America awesome" is the name of the super PAC that ran the ad attacking Trump's wife. One of the official donors is "The Ferry Bridge Group LLC".....a consulting firm out of Alexandria, VA. The managing director of that firm is Bryan McGrath.

Now go to the Breitbart article linked below. There you will find a quote from McGrath stating: "Donald Trump is not a Republican......He is a caricature of classless wealth......he is a caricature of the ugly American,"

And.... "McGrath serves as deputy director for the Hudson Institute's Center for American Seapower and is also working for the Cruz campaign.". Get that last part? ".....also working for the Cruz campaign. "

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/why-is-ted-cruz-getting-a-total-pass-for-attack-on-donald-trumps-wife/

Ted chose Carly Fiorina for his VP, but look what I found:

On Thursday, Carly Fiorina personally emailed her supporters, announcing that she is re-launching Carly for America as a multi-candidate PAC.

Here is where it gets interesting — Make America Awesome and Carly for America have the same mailing address: P.O. Box 26141, Alexandria, VA 22313.

http://cowgernation.com/2016/03/28/ted-cruz-carly-fiorina-and-liz-mair-connected-to-attacks-on-trumps-wife/

Ted Cruz is not some innocent crusading hero for his wife like some in the media tried to portray him just last night to defend what he did.

As far as that attack on his father. Trump did not say that unprovoked. Ted Cruz father went after Trump:

Rafael Cruz said Washington didn’t need someone who was willing to buy out people to get things done, referring to his son’s Republican rival, Donald Trump.

“We do not need a deal-maker in Washington,” Rafael Cruz said.

“We need a statesman that will stand on the Constitution, on the rule of law, on limited government, on separation of powers, on making sure that justices that are nominated are faithful to the Constitution and are not going to legislate from the bench,” he continued. “Now, I’m biased; I’m convinced that man is Ted Cruz.”

At one point in his speech, Yaeter noted, Rafael Cruz discussed the four different ways for Christians to decide who to vote for in an election, stressing that to vet a candidate, the voter must look at the candidate’s record, whether he is an able man, a man of truth and if he hates covetousness.

Snip

“If you vote according to the word of God, there’s only one candidate you can vote for; it’s that clear,” Rafael Cruz told the crowd of about 100.

Snip

The Chronicle-Tribune reported Rafael Cruz received a standing ovation when he told the crowd to “stop electing the village idiot” and made numerous jabs against Republican front-runner Donald Trump’s statements on greed and abortion.

“Make sure that instead of voting tradition, you vote conviction,” Rafael Cruz said. “That instead of being swayed by emotionalism, or hot air, or empty words, you look at the record and you vote for the candidates that stand on the principles of the word of God, on the principles of the Constitution.”

http://www.wnd.com/2016/04/cruzs-evangelist-father-re-emerges-in-indiana/

AND the day of the primary:

Trump was responding to something that Rafael Cruz said to the American Family Association of Indiana. “I implore every member of the Body of Christ to vote according to the word of God,” he says on a video interview. Then Rafael Cruz went after Trump, saying, “The alternative could be the destruction of America.”

http://www.advocate.com/election/2016/5/03/rafael-cruzs-tour-religious-right-led-trump-attack

Sorry, that was a liberal site. I just needed the quote to site. Cruz's dad said Trump could literally destroy our entire country. It's understandable Trump was angry.

Trump referenced an article with a man that looked similar to Cruz's father next to Lee Harvey Oswald. He wondered what he was doing next to him:

"And (Ted Cruz's) father, you know, was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's, you know, being shot. I mean the whole thing is ridiculous," Trump said in an interview on "Fox and Friends." "I mean what was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald, shortly before the death? Before the shooting? It's horrible."

http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/03/politics/donald-trump-rafael-cruz-indiana/

He didn't say Cruz's father was involved in the death or assassination for sure. He saw a picture of what The National Enquirer said was Cruz's dad standing near Lee Harvey Oswald handing out pro-Cuban revolutionary pamphlets shortly before the death and wondered what he was doing there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this wasn't the day of his death. Trump never said he was there assassinating him.

Despite the fact that the National Enquirer was right about John Edwards and some other things, it is far from a reliable news source. Do I think Trump should have cited that article and went there? No, and there was no benefit to Trump at all from it politically speaking if we are looking at fall out. However, I don't think it's the big deal made out to be by the media.

All in all, I think Ted did this out of spite, yes, but more to appease his #NeverTrump cohorts. They number in the thousands based on Facebook thumbs up comments I looked at on his page last night. There are also comments against him that received thousands of thumbs up (some of those were probably giddy liberals too). That number is miniscule when it comes time to winning an election, let alone a primary. The bottom line is that I think Ted decided to put his stock in them and the hope that Trump will lose and he can be seen as the "hero" that will save the party. I think Ted has grossly miscalculated and potentially committed political suicide. That is why his aids urged endorsement. Heck, they probably hate Trump too, but they knew this would happen.

Another UNIPARTY eunuch who lies. The lie is the weapon used most often by the criminal/socialist/totalitarian. Ted Cruz and the rest of the Gang of 535 along with former members Barry, Hillary and Kasich should be in federal prison. Land of the thieves...

To politicians, worse than any question of integrity (please) is the simple fact that you cannot do business with Cruz. He can’t control his ego.

UNREAL! Ted Cruz Blames Donald Trump for Chicago Rally Cancellation and Violence

Ted Cruz is simply not as smart as he thinks he is.

He just torched his political career. Most people will see him now as a petty, whining 6 year old.

Fools at “The Hill”....there is no political future for Ted Cruz!!! IMHO, the good citizens and voters of the great state of Texas should remove him from office immediately. I believe, even though DJT had the text of the Cruz address, two hours before it was given....Trump allowed Cruz to go forward, and hang himself, politically...which he promptly, actually did!!! I actually, also believe that Cruz, himself is not mentally stable.

It doesn’t matter because this man made himself irrelevant in national politics forever. Only the hardcore kool-aid drinkers like Amanda Carpenter, Cheetos Beck, and Mark Levin worship this guy.

I used to be skeptical of his Democrat college roommate who railed against him on Twitter for months. I figure some had/has to be because this guy is a liberal and Cruz is not, but his comments that Cruz was horrible to room with and get along with, I can now believe.

[ and is still furious about the personal attacks the GOP presidential nominee made on his family ]

If I remember correctly, Cruz’s team ran the ad of Melania in Utah FIRST! Trump counterpunched by retweeting the pic of the two wives. Sorry Ted, but if you don’t want to get stung, don’t hit the bee hive.

And media outlets like the Miami Herald had published the Cruz Sr/Oswald story A WEEK before Trump even mentioned it.

This only proves that Ted is a sore loser, and clear has ego or mental issues.

I’m so glad he self destructed last night, but I really hope that he didn’t take Trump/Pence down with him.

I did not expect Crz to endorse, and he did not need to. He is smart enough he could have said enough, without the smirkingly, smarmy “vote your conscience” garbage.

“Barry, Hillary and Katich”

And Cruz.. All have in common that they are career politicians. Public service is not the goal of politics. Self-interest via manipulation is the goal of politics. We should never be surprised at how low any politician will stoop. Yes, there are some who deserve praise and respect, but Cruz is certainly not among them. These people don't work for us, and generally don't care about us.

Cruz never answered why his father was next to Osward or deny that the photo was him. He didn’t say his father was responsible or the assassination. Any curious mind would ask what he was doing there. Maybe he’s a friend of a friend and they only met once? His father could’ve just answered it very easily instead of crying conspiracy theory

Cruz is just another foreign immigrant destroying this country the USA.If only Americans born in the USA were voting this election Trump would win by a huge margin . It’s the foreign army of 80 million immigrants that democrats have imported from the 3rd world who will vote for Hillary.

Cruz is just another immigrant destroying this country. It’s always important to see who destroyed the USA not us Americans who were born here but the foreign immigrants whose loyalty is not to America
