Good morning everybody!

I left AZ. Wednesday... and drove to Anza, CA. I met up with a buddy and we hiked the Pacific Crest Trail for 27 miles over the next 3 days. I had not hiked since February, so I was badly out of trail shape. We had about 2,000 feet of elevation gain, in the first segment of our hike, which was brutal, thankfully- we were rewarded by reaching a pine forest at 6,000 feet, where Mt. Laguna is located, just east of San Diego.

The next 17 miles took us down about 1,000 feet in elevation, placing us in a high desert environment. It was dangerously hot, causing me to suffer from a quick onset of heat stress, sending me scurrying under a manzanita bush, to escape the sun for any relief it would provide. My shade was about the size of a bath towel. I was fortunate that I only had about a mile to go until I reached my friend’s car, and the ice cold air conditioning that it provided, as a reward for finishing what we started.

I have been hydrating as much as possible, and will make a full recovery with lessons learned. I will carry more water next time, leave at the crack of dawn, and consider using an umbrella.

I had sporadic phone service so I was able to catch just bits and pieces of the final two days of the GOP Convention. As an “outsider,” it was great to have the running dialog provided by all of you here at the Trump family threads.

At this moment, I am in a San Bernardino, McDonald’s, just off the I-215, enjoying a welcome break in the air conditioning, downing a lemonade or two, and using the wifi to communicate with HQ’s.

I will reach my final destination later this afternoon, arriving at Vermilion Valley Resort, located on Thomas Edison Lake. The rustic resort is the last place that can be reached by vehicle, literally at the end of the road, on the western flank of the Sierra.

I will pass through Fresno, home to Free Republic. Were I to have the luxury of time, I wanted stop there, to take a picture of the US Post Office box, that FR uses for an address where donations are sent. Seeing the boss of FR, would be the cat’s meow. But, alas- I have already tarried too long and must get to my destination before dark, as the road is winding and pitted, and challenging in it’s own right in the daytime, becoming downright hazardous to drive at night.

Out of habit, I checked the Trump schedule and a rally is posted for North Carolina next week.

Take care everyone, I will be on a very limited Internet access situation, once at the “end of the road,” so contact will be dramatically curtailed. ;O(

oh boy.. WinstonSalem.. I lived there 15 years and owned a commercial real estate company. My son in still in the area (Hanging Rock Moutain ).

There is an airport NOT FAR from the fairgrounds so logistically it will go well.

Good southern folk. If I weren’t working til 11 PM Sunday and again 11PM to 9 AM Monday, I would definitely consider going.

Sounds like your trip is starting with “interest”. Have fun and be safe

Hi freepersup, I checked the Google map for Lake Thomas Edison and on the western side of the Sierra’s you would go thru Fresno and Clovis on route 168 to Huntington Lake but they are not showing any roads from there to Lake Thomas Edison.

If you are hiking the Pacific Crest Trail around Walker Pass let me know and maybe we can meet up as we are close by......
