Oil producers want U.S. to restrict imports

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico and West Texas oil producers are gearing up for a national effort to draw all major U.S. oil basins into a grassroots movement to restrict crude imports from overseas.

Leaders of the Panhandle Import Reduction Initiative, which launched in April in the Permian Basin, are seeking public meetings and rallies in other oil-producing zones to convert what’s now a regional initiative into a national movement, said Daniel Fine, associate director of the New Mexico Center for Energy Policy, who is working with local producers.

“Why are we buying imports from the Mid-East when OPEC has launched an offensive to basically shut down our industry?” Fine said. “It’s the same oil we’re producing in our shale basins where we have great supplies to meet market need. We can be completely self-sufficient, so let’s cut off over-supply of cheap imported oil.”

Oil is cheap because it is a commodity. It expensive when it is scarce everywhere.

This is a case of a bad economic proposal potentially being good policy. We need a tariff on imported oil to boost our production and to drive the international price through the floor. This will defund the Mohammedans and their terrorism. Any such policy, though, will need to be carefully devised so that it doesn’t last beyond the collapse of the funders of Islamofascism.

Artificially controlling a fungible commodity won’t do anything except give the government the ability to make fuel $10/gallon.

So we don’t import, big deal. Someone else will take our “share”. We’ll pay more and terrorist will still get funded by the Saudi Wahhabists.

The only way to fix those people is to come up with an alternative fuel source that doesn’t require oil. That’ll send those nomads back to obscurity. Of course nothing is as good as oil yet, so we’re a long way away from that.

This is the same crap the ethanol criminal complex uses to force us to buy their product.

Let the free market set supply and demand.

Don’t worry. American oil companies will ALWAYS work in America’s interest. If U believe that you’ll believe anything.

So they simply want the government to add another tax on drivers and pass the revenue on to them? Nuts!

I don’t trust ‘em.

But I’d still prefer them to run Mideast oil fields than any Muslims.

Notice they’re all for the gubermint establishing a price floor, but are mute on the prospect of a price ceiling.

Wrong direction.

It’s time to move toward getting government out of the business of choosing business and industrial winners and losers.

A big part of that is to end government support and subsidies of commodities and agriculture products.

Let the free market become free again.

“Who is in favor of funding Jihad?”

Oil is a commodity, thus jihad is funded if you buy a barrel of oil from Midland or Saudi Arabia.

Let’s block it! We have mineral rights in Eagleford Shale and the MUZZIES screwed us out of an oil lease a couple of Thanksgivings ago. I want lots of money and then I can donate to Free Republic and Trump.

Back when I was paying $3.75 a gallon for the gas I use in my business, and every waitress in North Dakota was driving a new F-350, I acted like a big boy and didn't call for the government to help me out.

What goes around, comes around.

We could, but that would be very expensive and cost many Americans their lives.

And if you do favor that, you can jump on the Internet and find the nearest Recruiting Station.
