Meredith McIver, an in-house staff writer from the Trump Organization, has released a statement regarding Melania Trump's speech from July 18th, 2016, at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
Follow link to read.
I think she has written books with Trump. I saw someone post that she did.
Trump should have put out a blurb that said........we were recklessly careless but now it’s time to move on. Lol
“As long as it wasnt sabotage, I dont care.”
I would still like to know who came up with the Rickroll!! ;-)
OK! I have been rough on the Trump team over this, and I still don’t like the way Manafort handled the aftermath. But I totally accept that this was an innocent mistake, and I hope that every media outlet that has been tough on Donald and Melania Trump over this unfortunate incident will give this explanation the same play they gave the original speech. And I might add that I think Donald Trump handled it in a very classy way. On we go!
I see that. all this over 23 words. Pfft. I despised them.
Sam, it reads that Melania liked and repeated the words from Michelle, verbatim, that Michele used in the same convention venue when Michele was the speaker, as the wife of the Democrat nominee.
McIver either did not realize that Melania was using Michele’s words verbatim, or Melania didn’t make it clear enough.
A professional speech writer would picks up on these things, be it Peggy Noonan, or any other long time professional Republican speech writers. They are paid to research phrases and paraphrases.
I am guessing Melania may not have realized plagiarism is a special concern for any and all national and international speeches, or else McIver was oblivious to her responsibility, as an assistant writer for the speech, to research the words Melania was repeating, and that McIver was “writing down”.
The failure was one of not hiring a responsible speech writer of high reputation who would be aware first and foremost of the basics of legal pitfalls associated with plagiarism.
Maybe it proves that now is the time to expand the team to a few professionals besides only Manafort. He can not be held responsible to single handedly run a General Election campaign and micromanage every word and phrase in every TRUMP family speech. There are pros out there to construct the specialty work.
Stealing is a crime. This is not. When you get a chance please post here the authority by which this is punishable in any respect in this exact setting, a wife’s speech at a convention. Republicans will let democrats beat then to death every time. Meanwhile Hillary is stealing your country.
Countrecount,
Many thanks for the transcript!

Someone said that this person has written several books with Trump.
If so, I find it hard to believe what she is saying is how it really went down. She would know about plagiarizing words and how to check for it and what to do.
But at least, it is not sabotage.
Sorry for the lack of editing in my comment, there.
Trump manages to control another news cycle.
If anyone will give this thought, how could it have been other than an innocent mistake? What evil theft of these sacred 23 words could have been planned? Of course it was innocent.
23 words in exact order were stolen from that speech. THAT IS A FACT.
You've been playing the concern-troll role on this for 2 days - what exactly is your end goal?
And to be clear, nothing was "stolen".
You better look up the definitions for stealing since you don’t seem to recognize this is one of them:
“dishonestly pass off (another person’s ideas) as one’s own.”
definition taken from the web.
Why weren’t those words stolen???
Melania said she wrote the speech. She said that in an interview.
she passed someone elses speech off as her own.
Did she get the speechwriters permission or Michelle’s?
It was stolen. That 23 word structure shows it was stolen. No one but Michelle or her speechwriter came up with that 23 word structure
Paraphrasing Talleyrand; “This incident was far, far worse than a colossal error, it was a mistake. And great candidates cannot afford such mistakes and remain great.” The mistake had nothing to do w/Melania’s words and everything to do w/the groveling apology by this writer doofus; who has legitimized the media spin on this bullshit event, thus raising its consciousness w/voters.
This has the feel of an attention-grabbing stunt... that worked.
Just admit she lifted a speech. It’s okay to say everyone does it or whatever platitude you want to make but the fact remains, she or her speechwriter stole it.
Heh. My only problem is that she said Melania has always liked Michelle Obama.
