Today’s “No Shit Sherlock” award goes to the New York Times‘s environment pages for their belated discovery that renewable energy is a lame duck.
Is the global effort to combat climate change, painstakingly agreed to in Paris seven months ago, already going off the rails?
Germany, Europe’s champion for renewable energy, seems to be having second thoughts about its ambitious push to ramp up its use of renewable fuels for power generation.
Hoping to slow the burst of new renewable energy on its grid, the country eliminated an open-ended subsidy for solar and wind power and put a ceiling on additional renewable capacity.
Germany may also drop a timetable to end coal-fired generation, which still accounts for over 40 percent of its electricity, according to a report leaked from the country’s environment ministry. Instead, the government will pay billions to keep coal generators in reserve, to provide emergency power at times when the wind doesn’t blow or the sun doesn’t shine.
According to the green experts, this is because people prefer energy which is cheap and available to energy which is expensive and intermittent.

We just recieved a “notification” from the City of Napa (California) That they had signed a contract with MCE ( a bunch of loons located in neighboring Marin County) to start delivering 50% renewable energy to a property we own. They gave examples of the cost of a) continuing with PG&E (the opt out choice), b) 50% “renewable, or c) 100% renewable, Funny thing, PG&E was still the cheapest of any of the choices. Then they go on to say that somehow “it’s our civic duty (for the sake of the environment) to pay more for our energy!” I think we’re going to “opt out!” We continue to elect mush heads to public office.
The NYT has to start stacking the deck against President Trump.
Everything is going to turn to chit come January, 2107 and they’ll be blaming him and Republicans for it all from that moment, forward.
Get used to it.
If not for her other incredible stupidity, Germans should remove Merkel for shutting down their nuke plants. Just look at France, 80% power generation from muclear and not a problem. Germans just have to always be smarter than everyone else...

I was going to tell him his calendar was hanging upside down, but then I realized that he meant Al Gore, not LBJ.
