I completely agree it is too similar to be coincidental. It was either a copy of part of Michelle's speech or they were both a copy of something else.
Did some googling for what else it might be and so far have not found it.
Assuming there is no third source, then the speech writer copied Michelle's speech.
I am not sure exactly how much blame is appropriate to pass onto Melania about it though. Seems to me that speech writers are supposed to be professionals who can be trusted not to do this kind of crap.
As for annihilating Hillary over something like this, I am sure there would be some comments about it if she had said, say something similar to Nancy Reagan or some such...but seriously, we are talking about something tacky, not something seriously evil. Hillary has done and said things that are seriously evil, and the comparison is absurd. When Mlelania Trump decides to sign an afadavit falsely testifying that she is aware that an innocent child brutally raped had a fantasies about older men....then we can compare her to Hillary. Please not before. Its kinda of disgusting to think there is any comparison.
If I was a professor, I have zero tolerance for plagiarism.
It indicates laziness, sloppy thinking, poor form and not crediting others with the source of the idea.
In politics, people borrow all the time without attribution and Neil Kinnock famously comes to mind.
Its not something I defend.
Agreed, plagiarism is a smaller wrong than treason and murder, Hillary’s vices. However, we must note any kind of wrong doing in our leaders. Just like we would in our families. You don’t OK your 10 year old stealing $5’from your wallet.
Also, this is a failure of some speech writer who needs to have his or her career ENDED. I can’t believe plagiarists like Doris Kearns Flappymouth still sell books. This reflects on Melania only if she insists she wrote it, which she did not. I speak a couple languages like she speaks English but I know not to write a speech in those languages.
One is a centuries-old idiom. The other is a common way of describing coming from poor origins. The parts in-between are notably different.
No one accused Michelle Obama of plagiarism when she used the idioms without attribution, did they? The most you can say is that their boilerplate is similar.
