Melania Trump speech appears to plagiarize Michelle Obama

Melania Trump’s highly anticipated speech at the Republican National Convention Monday night appears to have nearly copied a paragraph from Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

I doubt she did it herself. It is plagiarism—and plagiarism doesn’t necessarily reach a point of legal damages and recourse.

Of course the Clintons are criminals who shouldn’t be on the streets let alone near public office—and Melania isn’t.

Yes, this unfortunately plays into the hands of the biased media. And, on top of that the media are too often unfairly quoting Melania as having said she wrote the speech herself, without adding the qualifier that she had volunteered at least where I saw her saying that, which was “with as little help as possible”. That essentially was saying that she, like any political wife speaking on such a stage, had speechwriters involved.

Again, the speechwriter responsible for it is to blame, and the motive of that speechwriter should be examined carefully, as it well could have been a case of Never Trump sabotage.

10’s of millions of people will now watch the speech that wouldn't have before (including me).

And now that they have watched it, and not only watched it but got to watch it with a split screen of Mooochelle... ROFL.
Everyone gets to see side by side how much more beautiful Melania is than that wookie Moochelle.

And now after having watched the entire speech (which I wouldn't have had their been no controversy) I can clearly see the speeches are NOTHING alike. Melania spent the entire speech talking about her home country, Trump, and most importantly her absolute love for America! She must have expressed her LOVE for America 100 times.

NOTHING could have been more DIFFERENT than Moochelle’s for the first time I am proud of my country speech!

I absolutely 100% believe this was all staged and planned in advance by Trump.

I find it embarrassing and I am furious someone on Trump’s team did this. Melania couldn’t come up with her own words? Had to copy Michelle of all idiots? Sickening. Republicans are so good at giving the enemy ammunition.

I know she's 'one of us' and that's why people on FR are defending this, but it is clear to me that she was set up. Totally set up, and probably by a speech writer. She did not write the speech herself - no one does, even Obama had a speech writer. Thus, someone wrote the speech for her and decided to copy (yes, copy) parts from Michelle's speech. At the frequency that Presidential candidates operate at, there is no way Trump's team could have hired someone so amateur that they mistakenly copied a speech from a sitting First Lady. No way - no campaign could ever hire someone that juvenile/amateur. Which means one simple thing - it was done on purpose, and the Trump campaign has at least one speechwriter who decided to do that knowing the media frenzy it would generate. It was an embarrassment bomb thrown in.

It is my hope that the Trump campaign is screening its staff properly. What is (really) sad is that it is difficult to determine whether the saboteur is from the Democrats or from the Never Trump side.

You know that and I know that but she told Matt Lauer that she wrote the speech, so any actions against an anonymous speechwriter would just cause more questions and more headlines.

If she would have used parts of someones speech who actually loved this country, I think it would be different. The Trump campaign could pass it off as, “Melania really loves so and so, and her life's story is one she loves and respects” I just question the judgment of her speech writer. And Melania might not even have been aware of this.
