Yet alcoholism is called a disease, when it is a BEHAVIOR. If you learn you can't handle it, don't CHOOSE to use it. But that sets a precedent for any other behaviorally caused problems, pot included.
I do not believe that alcoholism is a disease. I do believe alcohol is addictive, because it is, but the way to not get addicted to alcohol is to not use it.
I also believe that it does seem to run genetically, but not always.
My dad was an alcoholic, total drunk, but I do not drink at all, except for a single top shelf margarita on my birthday, but then that’s all. I love the taste of that drink, but I don’t like the way alcohol makes me feel, so I do not seek to get drunk.
My brother’s dad, my step dad, was a rip roaring violent drunk, and my brother is also a chronic alcoholic, but he isn’t violent that I know of.
But at some point, it does seem that you can drink yourself into such a state that you are disabled or even diseased, I suppose.
Look at this guy, Jim. This story just blows my mind.

I hate to spoil the end of the story, but this young man died at the age of 28 because his organs failed as a result of chronic alcohol abuse, and he died in rehab.
