I watched a “bonus” audio commentary track of a “Mad Men” episode which included scenes of Don Draper visiting an American Legion Hall.
An actual Legion Post permitted the show to be filmed on location and the producer complained that they were told not to tamper with the flags and emblems in the hall. He behaved as if that were unreasonable. Later, he criticized the veterans organization for the reactionary politics of its members in a blanket dismissal of the organization.
This proved to me how out of touch with reality the producer was.
Matthew Weiner is the same person who annoyed many “Mad Men” fans by trying to convince everyone that the buck-toothed, slouching, gangly, teenagerish actress who played Megan Draper had the same style, allure, sex appeal and French chic as the young Catherine Deneuve or Bridget Bardot.
It was laughable.
