INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Shortly after being officially introduced as Donald Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence was trending on Twitter — but it had nothing to do with politics.

Pence posted a photo of his family eating at a Chili’s restaurant in New York, prompting a storm of tweets.

Because he should be dropping three or four hundred dollars to feed his family at some trendy NY restaurant to get approval from people who would never vote for him anyway.

People have to get a grip...

Seriously, you see someone in the news and you need to tell the whole world...?

You know what? If the kids like Chilis, you go to Chilis. They’ll be back. Probably didn’t have time to research family restaurants in the area. (Seriously, though, Carmine’s for family-style, but that’s Italian)

I don't get what the uproar is. Everybody knows the best salsa comes from New York City.

(It's a joke at the expense of Pace.)

Maybe they’re just regular people in an unfamiliar place looking for a recognizable meal.

Not everyone wants to pay $500 bucks for salmon foam mousse with one ravioli artfully accented by one bread crumb.

The worst, most traumatic meal I ever had was back in the 90s at a Michelin star rated restaurant. I was left so hungry I stopped at McDonalds afterward. The champagne was incredible though.

Meanwhile Hillary and Huma share $500 room service meals, not including dessert.

Whenever I used to go to Pacifica, CA I always are at the Taco Bell because they had the best location, right on the beach. I always laughed about that.
Chilies should be marketing this, good for business.

There are actually many very good restaurants in Manhattan that don’t cost a fortune. It’s highly competitive, you just have to know where to go.

True, and I would think the liberal elite response should be a turn off to all those poor people they claim to represent.

Bill Clinton charged a $900 meal to the tab of the UC-Davis in Sacramento when he was a speaker there, that’s how he rolls.

Here in Indiana, Applebees, Chilis and Ruby Tuesday are a big deal. Bourbon street steak!
These sniggling, snobbish detractors look down their noses at Olive Garden and Red Lobster too.
They can kiss my Hoosier ***.

Yeah, and who would want to go to a snooty restaurant for 3 hours, after such a whirlwind the past few days - I believe him when he says he wants to go home!

I haven’t been to NY, and don’t have plans to go there to eat ANYWHERE there. So, at least he spent money in NY. Lay off.

Bad optics I must say. Any decent tourist guide will tell you to never to go to a chain restaurant in Manhattan! Hopefully they weren't also wearing those hideous "I (heart) NY" shirts or buying ticket to the Statue of Liberty from some shady street vendors.

Besides, any tourist knows that no visit to Manhattan is complete without having a genuine New York slice!.
