A few people as far back as 2007 predicted that Turkey under AKP & Erdogan will eventually end up like today’s Iran under mullahs. All the signs have been there.

Turkish military has had a mandate to uphold the secular constitution of Turkey since Ataturk’s era. Erdogan has tried in various ways to erode and dismantle it. This coup appears to have been engineered to further purge the secularists in the Turkish military, hence pave the way for an Islamic one.
