A US-based Turkish cleric accused of plotting a coup to overthrow the Ankara government has claimed President Recep Erdogan staged the rebellion himself to justify a major clampdown on opposition forces.

Fethullah Gulen, who was a former key ally of Erdogan has been blamed by the politician of using his contacts to develop a 'parallel structure' to overthrow the state.

Gulen sounds like a decent guy.

Sorry Doc, this is way beyond whether Gulen is a decent guy or truthful, it's about Obama mercing out the US Military to the Caliphate through NATO.

2) Legit - Erdogan’s hotel room was bombed, but Erdogan was not in it.

Doesn't mean that it was legit.

Fethullah Gulen, who was a former key ally of Erdogan . . . .

I think some are believing Gulen was trying to help secular Turkey and are therefore opposed to handing him over to Erdogan.

Ahmet Sik's book, “The Army of the Imam.” "It chronicles how the followers of the imam, Fethullah Gulen, have proliferated within the police and the judiciary, working behind the scenes to become one of Turkey’s most powerful political forces — and, he contends, one of its most ruthless, smearing opponents and silencing dissenters." It is not secularism.

That is what I've believed. Gulen helped Erdogan. However Gulen and Erdogan have had a falling out lately. Who's in charge? argument.

I have not read the book but I have read articles like this one from several years ago.

Gülen now helps set the political agenda in Turkey using his followers in the [Erdogan's] AKP as well as the movement's vast media empire, financial institutions and banks, business organizations, an international network of thousands of schools, universities, student residences (ışıkevis), and many associations and foundations. He is a financial heavyweight, controlling an unregulated and opaque budget estimated at $25 billion.[3] It is not clear whether the Fethullahist cemaat (community) supports the AKP or is the ruling force behind AKP. Either way, however, the effect is the same.

A very plausible theory. How did Erdogan have the list of judges to sack so fast?

Enquiring minds....

I read elsewhere that when the soldiers in tanks on bridge in Istanbul came out of the tanks and were set upon by thugs, the soldiers said it was an exercise, or they thought it was an exercise.

It’s possible that this so-called coup was orchestrated by Erdogan and to flush out all those who “opposed” him. If this was a legit coup, it wouldn’t had been this half-assed.

Grampa Dave and others have lots of info on Gulen. I don’t have time to copy anything at the moment (copmuter problems) but Gulen is a super bad guy, if he was in power, he’d be as bad as Erdogan.

Grampa, maybe you can help out?

Yes, I said our Terrorist in Chief was taking notes. He’s staging something for the near future.

On February 27, 1933, the German Reichstag burned down due to an arson. This was Adolf Hitler’s moment to seize and extend a much more powerful grip on the nation, as they had found their scapegoat, supposedly a Communist.

Later examination of the events leading up to the fire, though, indicated it was a “false flag” incident created for just the purpose of consolidation of power. Hitler’s own goons did the arson.

Same with Erdogan. A few of the Turkish Army members were lured into forming a plot, and given some disinformation, they staged an abortive coup. Unprepared for what was about to happen to them, they walked into a trap of Erdogan’s making, and it made a perfect excuse for a crackdown on the less politically reliable members of the Turkish military. Better than a mass firing, as the disaffected officers would then have gone into exile and plotted a REAL coup.

If you are going to take a shot at the king, you had better to Hell not miss.

A genuine coup would have decapitated the leadership as the first step.

Whether they were killed or jailed.

False flag coup engineered by Erdogan ... note how he immediately had 2,400 constitutional judges arrested (a real pain in his side) obstructing his Islamic dictatorial takeover of the country. A few hundred dead in a false flag is minor collateral damage.

Odd there are no photos of this hotel after the alleged bombing. Here's what is reported thus far:
