No, but since WW I, they have a long tradition of secularism and rejection of fundamentalism. When fundamentalists threatened to gain power, the military would stage a short-lived coup until secular democracy could be reestablished. That ended with the ascension of Erdogan, who has been infiltrating the military with fundamentalists. Now he is purging the secularists, and that is the end of the order established by Kemal Ataturk and maintained by the periodic intervention of the military. The foxes are in charge of the chicken coup.
