Yes, much like the citizens of Libya and Egypt, and how did THOSE overthrows work out? Of yeah, much worse people took charge.

Sure, there’s a chance it could actually be good guys taking charge in Turkey, much like there’s a chance that when you flip a coin it will land on its edge. But history teaches that they usually don’t. The Mid East is filled with unsavory characters and most of their bad governments get overthrown by a different flavor of bad government. It’s good to have hope, but if you’re a gambler, take the under, the replacement will probably be another kind of bad guy.

If (1) the coup is successful, and (2) Ergodan is replaced with a secular military leadership, then this will be a good thing.

There is a tradition in Turkey of a secular military being respected as guardians of society, much like in Egypt. But still need to know more before we celebrate too much.

Believe me, Obama is going to be very upset by this. Obama and Erdogan are two peas in a pod, they think alike, and they like and admire each other. And both pretend to go after ISIS while not really doing it. Erdogan gets illegal oil from ISIS and really supports them.

Erdogan has gotten rid of or jailed military higher ups (generals, etc.) many of whom were Western trained (primarily in the U.S.) and are Western oriented. Erdogan has fired/replaced them with his own flunkies who are much more oriented to the Muzzie/sharia law religious philosophy.

In the U.S., Obama has done the same thing, replacing our military higher ups (or outright firing them) with his own flunkies, and those who will enforce his secularist/diversity oriented philosophy in the Armed Forces.

Obama has to go ASAP; he is our version of a dictator, accomplished through Executive Orders, a subservient SCOTUS, rules and regulations by Department edicts (such as the EPA), and Courts throughout the land that have been packed with liberal judges, along with the acquiescence of the corrupt MSM. Oh, and his own Dem party, equally corrupt as Obama and without any moral fiber or true love of country.

Trump MUST win in November. Glad the Never Trumpers got nowhere at the Pub convention, as they too are working against our country’s interests in such dangerous times.

Tyrannical militant muslim comes into power.

Begins to Fundamentally Transform the nation.

Military ousts the tyrant!

Imagine that!

Maybe our military could learn something from the Turks.

It’s not really a risk since you don’t actually have an option. We don’t get to pick. We just get to watch. And usually we watch a bad situation get worse.

This isn’t citizens. This is the militay.

The FIRST Egyptian overthrow was by fanatic muslims. The SECOND one was by the military and it was a GREAT move that is still holding the line.

Big difference. This is not an arab spring event. This is an ANTI arab spring event.

Only one thing is certain - once the Turkish military hears Obama’s professorial stuttering comments on the coup, and once they realize that they have made John Kerry VERY, VERY upset, they will immediately back down and restore Erdogan to power.

Two factors I sense brought about this new military coup, a reading of the Koran in Hagia Sophia during Ramadan, a big no-no, and the recent bombing at the airport.

Think Egypt - after a move toward islamisization and seizing control over the institutions of government the Muslim Brotherhood’s Morsi was overthrown by military coup.

Same thing is happening here...

They’ve shut down the news sites. I was there for 2 coup’s, one in 83 and another in 97. Should be interesting...

If it involves a large number of middle eastern Muslims, it is always, ALWAYS the worst news possible.

Unless, of course, the words "atomic bomb" and "Mecca" are being used in the same sentence. ;)

So you assume, right now we have absolutely no information. I bet with history. Historically the Mid East does not replace bad guys with good guys. I’ll enjoy being wrong if it happens, but that doesn’t happen too often. Pessimists stay pessimists because the world is a dark place.

I think we should cheer the military in this case. It is the most westernized institution in Turkey and, prior to Erdogan, kept the crazy Muslim fanatics in their place.

The Turkish military may be doing this for several possible reasons: the military does not want Turkey to get booted out of NATO, does not want war with Russia which it would lose, the islamofascists under Erdogan may have been ready to pull the trigger on the restoration of an Ottoman style caliphate, or the civilian government was just overdue for a beat-down.
