CLEVELAND — Millions of dollars short and running out of time, organizers of the Republican National Convention have written an urgent request for $6 million to Las Vegas billionaire couple Sheldon and Miriam Adelson to cover the bills for next week’s festivities.

In a letter to the Adelsons, obtained by POLITICO, the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee revealed the names of more than two dozen prominent corporations and individuals who have reneged on a collective $8.1 million in pledged donations.

The letter represents the most public acknowledgment to date that Donald Trump has directly cost convention organizers millions of fundraising dollars.

“Over the past couple months, negative publicity around our potential nominee resulted in a considerable number of pledges backing out from their commitments,” the letter says.

It goes on to list the companies and wealthy individuals who have withdrawn their financial commitments. Among those who have canceled their donations, according to the letter, are David Koch ($1 million), FedEx ($500,000), Visa ($100,000), Pepsi ($500,000) and Coca-Cola ($1 million).

It won't surprise me that they would turn around and give it to some militant left-wing groups to show that "they care," and are not like that "crazy lunatic Trump." If they decided to back away from earlier promise, I hope they give it to their employees as unscheduled bonus. Don't give it to the organizations runs by the likes of Obama and Clinton. I am tired of the dysfunctional cohabitation of big business and their avowed haters.

We need a list of these companies if at all possible...ad them to my boycott list. Seems to me if you signed a contract you have to follow through even if you don’t like the candidate the people voted for. It’s like these knuckleheads on the rules committee I watched a good chunk of that 14 hours and they were beat like a baby fur seal but they still seem intent on bringing it to the floor....totally amazing...

Are any of these people or companies supporting the Democrats?

They are upset that the party that they bought with big money - making so many office holders wealthy so that they could control the government - isn’t staying bought.

I don’t know about Koch, but I think most big companies normally contribute to both sides.

Oh, NO! Both Pepsi and Coke? Whatever will they do for beverages? /s

And yes, just ask the base or, I’m sure there are many Trump supporting people in business who would help out if the needs were known.

It does not matter if they support them from their heart. Koch may be different but other companies? They do give money to lib’s and Dems.

Good, glad to know who they are...anti-Americans should never be supported by Americans. I swear, the party is better off - there’s no such thing as a free lunch.

“ad them to my boycott list.”

How big is your list? I had one that was up to 30 or so companies and finally said, the hell with it. I realized that the only thing I could eat was stale, gas-station, hot dogs and a Coke (which is now out!) every day.
I think we should boycott the GOP host committee that put this show on. What the heck were they thinking by waiting until the last minute to realize the significance of this and start begging for money elsewhere????

“Why are these companies even involved?”

It’s corporate sponsorship. They donate money to make it happen and their name is plastered on the walls for everyone to see. Or they get to sell their goods at the convention.
Standard practice for any big event, (sports, music, conventions, etc)
