#1: James Madison’s intent was that the 2nd Amendment give citizens access to any weapon that the bad buys coming after them might be bringing. So it’s only natural that the weapons which 2A covers evolves right along with the weapons that the bad guys have access to.
#2: Thomas Jefferson owned a .462-caliber military-grade rifle capable of firing 22 shots without reloading, as fast as he could pull the trigger. The same rifle was standard issue to the infantry in the Austrian army of the late 18th Century. So there’s little doubt where he stood on the matter.
