President George W. Bush: We Are Grief Stricken, Heartbroken and Forever Grateful
Townhall.com ^ | July 12, 2016 | Katie Pavlich

Today an interfaith ceremony was held to honor the five police officers murdered in Dallas last week. Native Texan and former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush sat in the front row as honored guests.

President Bush led the nation after 9/11, somehow finding a way to deliver the right words to a shaken nation and today, in the wake of the worst loss of law enforcement life since that horrible day, he offered words of healing, support and unity to the country.

"Laura and I see members of law enforcement everyday, we count them as our friends," Bush said. "Their courage is our protection and shield. We're proud of the men we mourn and the community that has rallied to honor them and support the wounded. The Mayor and the police department have been mighty inspirations for the rest of the nation."

"With their deaths, we have lost so much. We are grief stricken, heartbroken and forever grateful," he continued. "Each new day can bring new dangers, but none of us were prepared, or could be prepared, for the ambush and shock of hatred and malice."

"To renew our unity we need to remember our values," he said. "We don't want the unity of grief, nor do we want the unity of fear. We want the unity of hope, dignity and high purpose."

"[To the children of those lost] Your loss is unfair, we cannot explain it, but we can stand beside you and share your grief and we can hope God will comfort you with a hope deeper than sorrow."

A Lib I know was TOTALLY OFFENDED that President Bush would speak at the memorial service, today.

But it was FINE for 0bama to USE THEIR SLAIN BODIES as a platform to PUSH GUN CONTROL.

I will NEVER understand how the Liberal brain works. It must sound like marbles rolling around in a tin can in there, LOL!

President Bush was always a class individual, He just wouldn’t defend himself against the progressives smear machine and it broke my heart.

Yep. He should go back to the studio. Timing with Jeb! is coordinated, IMO. Of course he will get a pass because of the event, but that is the point, is it not?

Of course. Being offended is a calling for the left.

It was a fitting speech for a memorial service. Dignified, solemn and respectful. He was there for the officers and those who loved them. Not intent on lecturing or demeaning as the current president could not help doing.

(This is a brief time-out from my normal BushBash!)

I know this thread is about Bush’s remarks. I have my issues with the Bush family and with W’s deflection of blame from the Saudis for 9/11, but in this case Bush’s remarks were mature and appropriate.

But I simply am astounded at how unbelievably inappropriate Obama’s remarks were. He went to the memorial service for 5 police officers who were murdered because of careless accusations of racism against police officers ... and he again accused police of systematic racism. He went to the memorial service for officers who were entirely innocent ... and declared that none of us are innocent of racism.

Words cannot express the contempt I have for this vile man. He cannot vacate 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue soon enough.

"Obama the Communist Community-Organizer-in-Chief!

Saul Alinsky was a community organizer....Activists in general don't want to see people contented no matter what their station/place in life. Activists are found in every walk of life, they are the unhappy, the depressed, the down trodden, the jobless and penniless...with the exception of donators like George Soros who is heavily funding BLM and NBPO....did anyone think that PROTESTING was a job? Activist are a sorry lot for hard working folks of any stripe.

Bush’s speech was CLASSY..Obama, well, he cant help himself, he uses EVERY event, even if its a somber one, into a campaign rally..Im surprised he didnt make everyone stand up and pledge they will vote for Hillary Clinton..if I were a family member of one of those slain officers I would have gotten up and left, I cant stand to look at Obama..even when I try to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope just for ONE day he will be classy, he cant do it

I will say that Bush is the perfect ex-President. Pretty much stays out of things, and is always respectful of servicemen and police.

I wish a certain other ex-President *cough* Carter *cough* would take a lesson from him.

I listened to all the speeches but could only listen to that arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave for about 10-15 minutes than I couldn’t take it anymore and had had to mute him. President Bush’s speech was right from the heart, but the Police chief’s speech was the best imho.
